I found the explanation very interesting.
I'm not a fan of Foxtel, but it would appear that they are trying multiple avenues to address the perceived threats of Netflix etc.
Very interesting! I read recently they they were going to start offering smaller, more focused, content packs at a sharper price.
This flies in the face of that!
I can't see any reason why you would subscribe to foxtel for anything other than Sport & Game of Thrones.

I actually cancelled our Foxtel (satellite) yesterday because the only thing ever watched was Nickelodeon.
Was going to consider getting Foxtel Now, purely because it can be Chromecast (I believe).
They can get stuffed now. Kids have the same channels on Fetch TV for $6/month. They can keep that.
Is Fetch TV all over internet or does it still use the normal aerial for normal channels?

FTA channels are still fed into the box via the RF input (antenna).

Thats so annoying, Foxtel just increasingly makes things so much more difficult, first was Foxtel play which was absolute garbage, then there was calling them up for issues which again was absolute garbage, and now theres this. I think thats enough for me, I'm cancelling my subscription and just sticking to Netflix, screw it.

Presumably this crazy price hike to allow your children to watch advertising (don't worry, they'll only become unquestioning lifelong consumers of products including ones that kill them early) is because they're trying to squeeze as much money out of the rapidly declining numbers of customers before they die.
My 12 month contract was coming to an end and they sent me a letter saying my package was going up $3. I contacted them saying I want to cancel (I was already going to, but the $3 was the final nail in the coffin).
I got the call from the retention team basically offering me more for less than I'm paying now - I told them it's to late, their pricing made me look into other options and those options work just as well, if not better, for me.
As others have said, excessive pricing is just going to see them lost more users. The sooner AFL gets a more affordable option that you can stream, the better.
What did they offer? I want to cancel, but wife wants to keep for her reality crap.

Strange time to jack up the prices. Now that the AFL/NRL is over for the year, this is probably the time when a lot of people are wondering if they really need to keep Foxtel.

Wow that's pretty poor, I already wondered why people would choose to sign up to Foxtel (besides those interested in sport). Now it is even less attractive than before.
