Is the food going to be used to feed the children that make the shoes?

    • no its going to be used to feed the dogs that guard them :S

btw. 30% off is pretty standard for them - they normally have 40% off sales. Especially considering the exclusions.

    • +7

No, it'll most likely feed the children of families in this country for whom social supports are aleady in place; but whose parents often choose to spend their social security benefits on booze, drugs or gambling.

The third-world kids indentured to sweatshops will just have to fend for themselves I'm afraid!

"Discount does not apply to Running Footwear, Running Apparel, samples or B-Grade product."

Does that leave much at factory outlets?

    Good cause though.

    • There's still a bit of soccer gear left I guess…

My God, Nike are doing this? Isn't this a bit rich for them to be so pretentiously ethical ? Bloody disgraceful. I've got a better idea than this promotion, how about everyone boycotts Nike until they conduct their business ethically in the first place? That would be an even greater outcome.

Not a bargain, a PR exercise.

      totally agree

    • +1

so they go out of business and all the people they employ can starve? it isnt that simple

    • +1

I agree that this doesn't really classify as a bargain, but if more people get much needed food because of this, then it's not all bad.

    • can I ask you if you own any shares in any company? which ones?

      • no i dont own shares i don't believe in doing so

        • -2

Don't believe in it? Is that a underhanded way of saying you can't afford it but don't want to sound poor? How can you be morally against owning shares?

        • +1

Because most of the money u make is prolly due to exploitative practices on the behalf of the company, i'm not a free-market evangelist, so i don't really understand/believe in making money out of nothing. Normally you get paid for a service, or work, or something.. shares and stocks, and stock-traders, etc, get paid for moving around money that doesn't exist in the real world, effectively, they contribute nothing to society, they don't provide any service, they have no function, no use.

How can you not understand being morally opposed to share-trading?

        • I was kinda hangin' in there with you up until that last post Montaigne. I wouldn't know where to begin with addressing any of that. Frankly, I'm speechless! :o

You should've quit while you were ahead dude.

        • +1

It's not that I didn't understand it, it's that I wanted to hear your reasoning being that most people don't have one other than what I mentioned above. Whether I agree with your reason or not, I respect you for actually having one, simple as that.

        • +1

          @Montaigne
very interesting - my next question would be then if you buy anything from multinational companies? It could be argued you know that its impossible to operate 100% ethically. Some would say that nike is still doing a benefit by running sweatshops because the people would otherwise be unemployed. People choose to work there because its probably better than other work they could find.

    • +2

I absolutely agree with you. This is more of a PR thing to make themselves look nice.

  • +2

not a bargain…. Nike sell overpriced crap and this is a PR stunt nothing more. neg.

  • Awwwww yeah 30% air Jordan shorts
