I am not familiar with kids cycle brands. Any recommendation for a not-so-expensive brand? How do Decathlon cycles compare with other stores in terms of price and quality?
Also, any thoughts on these cycles?
Any other good brands/sellers on eBay?

balance bike looks okay.. as above, it wont fit him/her for long.
once they hit ten, get em a mountain bike. should last until they dont want to ride a bike anymore (parties/girls/cars).
Go to an actual bike store and get the kid measured
A balance bike is good for 2-4 year olds to ride before they are ready for a pedal bike.
Children four years and over should be able to learn to pedal and ride pretty quickly (unless they have a disability).
I've inspectd a few name brand kids bikes and they don't seem to offer much over the cheaper bikes for a beginner.
Thanks. When you say cheaper bikes - do you mean those in Kmart etc? I personally like Decathlon products for the price/ value but I haven't yet compared the prices.
A small bike with training wheels, strong enough for a grown man to sit on without breaking. The training wheels will come off before you know it.
Should matter too much for a 5 year old. They will grow out of it before you know it.
