CourierPlease Handed My eBay Parcel to Someone Else and Apparently Obtained Signature upon Delivery (SOLVED, but not by Courier)

Hi Guys,

I have purchased a new phone last Tuesday on eBay (partial payment via gift cards and rest via paypal) and when I checked tracking number it showed that the parcel was delivered.

I have contacted the seller who has arranged proof of delivery to be emailed to me showing signature upon delivery which apparently occurred at 2.57 pm last Friday. I was at work at that time and no one in my family has received it or sign for it. The seller has asked me to contact CourierPlease claiming that signature is not mine. I have sent them an email as their office was closed on Saturday.

I am very concerned as this is the first time I have paid for item online using gift cards (Normally I use Paypal for all online shopping). In the event that CourierPlease isn't helpful, should I be using eBay's resolution centre or PayPals? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. This is my first post, so if I have stuffed up in any way, I apologise in advance.

YAY - The luck was on my side, the neighbour just brought the phone. It was just dropped into their mailbox. They didn't sign for it. I will be able to sleep tonight.

Thank you for all your tips and advice.

    Wait for signature.
Given its very recent, ask the courier company to ask the delivery person if they recall anything about the delivery. They should.

    • I have received email from them showing just first letter of my name as signature. What worries me now is that ebay or paypal will use this as evidence that the seller has done his part and won't provide any further assistance.

  • Next time use a parcel locker

    • CouriersPlease don't have access to the Parcel Lockers.

I ordered some stuff on eBay a couple of weeks ago with my delivery address pointing to a Parcel Locker, thinking it was going to be delivered via Australia Post.

When I found out it was CouriersPlease I contacted them and they told me that I had to provide a street address. It took 3-4 extra days to receive the parcel.

      • I had no idea it would be CouriersPlease either. Normally my mother is at home and signs for all deliveries. She said that no one came… I never had any issues in the past with deliveries. >.<

You can get it sent care of a post office

        • I didn't know that. They didn't give me that option when I called.

CouriersPlease had options of PopStations or PopPoints - which is the local shops/newsagencies that they have an agreement with to be able to drop off the parcel for collection

That's something I hadn't heard of before. The closest PopPoint to my place was a 15 minute walk.

Also happened to me a few years ago, CourierPlease as well. Item reported as delivered and someone else signed. After calling their support, it turned out to be driver's mate living on the same street who signed my parcel, and he then dropped the parcel at my place a few hours later.

      Whoa… really?

I'm not sure how to react to this. I keep bouncing between very impressed and very creeped out.

    • I have been checking every morning hoping for a miracle.. You were extremely lucky, although I doubt that I will have the same luck.. This is the third day now..

Couriers Please are absolutely awful - they ruined Christmas for us last year - they were booked for next day delivery on the 15th of December and eventually managed to deliver it the day after boxing day, and didn't even have the balls to actually get a signature. Would never use them again!

    • I have been reading reviews on them and it is making me uneasy. They seem to just drop stuff off without getting the signatures. I guess in this instance it is worse since "someone officially signed for it" as far as the seller is concerned..

that somebody could have been the courier guy

I have had sellers use Couriers Please. Never again very hard to deal with

    • Did you get the parcel or refund in the end?

I ended up getting the parcel. They would not take it to a post office for collection and were going to charge a fee to change the delivery address. Collection depot was half way across town so had to get my wife to pick it up

Good luck and I hope you receive your parcel.

With the way it is going for shopping, online and deliveries etc, it's best to invest in a CCTV system that can at least provide you with some evidence of delivery/non-delivery

Even if you are renting, you can get the Netgear Arlo, wireless cameras that doesn't need a fixed connection etc ..

I know it is an additional cost but eventually, it may get you out of the sh!t and be a good ROI.

I even use dashcams now just in case of evidence of accidents etc.

    Cheers

    • Thank you :). I agree, it might be necessary for future deliveries.

Im not sure who deliver amazon australia's parcels but like yours i had a dodgey delivery , it was delivered to my house but the dodgey bit was it stated the parcel was placed in my hands .. it wasnt it was just left on the front step and i thought anyone coming to my front door could have stolen it and i would not have had any recourse.
I think the main worrying bit for your problem is the claimed signature , i have signed on the those devices and it looks nothing like my normal signature …..anyway good luck abd just keep annoying them till you get the right answers.

    • Amazon did the same for me in the past, just left it near the door. We don't even have the front fence so it could have easily been stolen. In this case it was written that I signed for it and only shows first initial as signature. I have a feeling that this is going to be a nightmare to deal with based on peoples reviews and experiences.

Similar experience with Amazon. I do have a front fence but the front door and verandah and very visible from the street.

I have complained to Amazon as they put on all of their parcels that it is okay to leave it when no one is in attendance (or however they word it) but don't give us the chance to remove that or provide alternative shipping info.

Any adult of the same gender could sign for it, since they never verify the signature. I just squiggle on their electronic doodads so my signature wouldn't even match my signature. But it's always done as I emerge from my house.

    • In this case it only shows letter S as a signature. Obviously whoever received it didn't know my last name and therefore couldn't have faked that part.. I wonder if there is even purpose in signing for it if they don't even check the IDs.

    • Any adult of the same gender could sign for it, since they never verify the signature.

How would they verify the signature anyway?

you should put: Solved, but not by CourierPlease
