How Do You Find Time for Gaming?

Hi guys,

The other quit gaming thread got me thinking.
I have never been a heavy gamer but when I do play a game I do get somewhat addicted like to spend all my free time on it.
These days I barely have any free time with work and home commitments.
I know few friends still manage to find a few hours for gaming on most days. The only way I figure they can manage is not sleeping.

If you are a gamer, how do you find time with work and home demands?

Cheers

By wearing the pants in my household…

    • wtf does that even mean?

no one else is wearing his pants

      • wtf does that even mean?

It means that I don’t let my wife tell me what I can and can’t do. This, in turn, causes her to withhold “sexy times” from me, which is a fruitless effort at gaining control, because all I say to that is… “moar game time!!!”

          cringe

      Pants optional for hard-core gaming

Ah easy! By neglecting other commitments…

    Not recommended though

  • Staying up late on a weekend is how I do it.

    • Are you sleep deprived overall?

      • Not on a weekend as that's when I get the most sleep. I work too many hours during the weekdays for a proper night sleep unfortunately.

  • 38 hour work week,38 minute daily commute, no kids, only seeing friends once every 6 weeks and having a partner who also games. That being said I'm only a casual gamer, unless I'm playing something like fallout which i will spend every second of spare time on and neglect the housework as a result until I get sick of playing it.

    • Well that's what happens to me when I play games. (even phone games to a certain extent). I keep playing whenever I have time until I realise there is massive backlog of other things to catch up on.

I don't, I only play for 20 minutes occasionally at lunch times

All humans have rest and relaxation time, nobody is a robot doing something productive 24/7.

Look at how much time people fk around on their smartphones, trawling through social media, reading/watching what the Kardashians are doing, watching Netflix, watching footy and other sports.

Everyone has time to be a gamer if they wanted to, different people prioritize different things.

If I have time to gym and exercise, then others have time to play games. Just different choices of how to spend the little free time people have.

    short answer is i dont.

I ended up taking up the ps4 amazon deal, and hardly play the thing. I'd much rather watch a us tv show

I just spent my whole weekend playing WoW with my son. I should probably get some sun.

Have leisure time? It's GAME time

These days I barely have any free time with work and home commitments.

I'm the same, however, when I do manage to squeeze some time to try out a new A+++ game I end up playing for 20mins and getting very bored, sometimes online games will get me back for a little longer, but they take too much of a time commitment to win and get better.

  • It helps if your partner shares the interest because then it doesn't become an issue if you want to invest a full day or 2 playing some new game that's just been released.

I just kinda go with the flow, if I feel like playing then I might put in an hour or 2, but then there are periods when I won't fire up a game for a month or more, depends on what else is going on.

I started gaming only an year ago. Now I spend about 10-20hrs a week. Only Single player games. I don't like the shows which my wife watches so I use that time to play games before bedtime. But, I always feel guilty after playing. I'm in IT (FED & Mobile) which requires continuos learning like no other fields. Every week new libraries, new Design patterns. Pretty stressful and very hard to stay in the field. And I need to exercise as the job is very sedentary. Every hour that was spent sitting with a controller is affecting my health and career. But, I still play because damn these games are beautiful and keep me hooked.

While you may need the exercise, the enjoyment and possible reduction in stress from gaming is not a bad thing…. Maybe you just need to set times(A schedule of sorts?) and achieve a balance….You would burn out otherwise if it was just work…..

  • Used to be an avid gamer back in high school. With work, uni and other commitments, it has slowed down quite a bit. But I still try to play often casually just to get away from things for a bit.

Multiplayer - Would normally play with my mates on a regular basis. Probably once during the week for an hour or so before going to bed. On the weekends, a bit more. But rarely goes past 3-4 hours.

Story mode - I stopped playing story mode games for quite a while. I think the last one I played was Far Cry 4 back in 2014. But I've recently picked it up again with God of War and Spiderman coming out and Red Dead Redemption as well. Try to play during uni holidays to finish it off within a week or so.

    Don't have kids.

I work 40-45 hours a week, cook most nights, ride mountain bikes as a main hobby, go to the gym 3x a week.
Have a girlfriend and a dog (no kids).

I struggled to find time playing games. I don't enjoy only 20-30 mins.. I'm an RPG fan, so prefer to lock in a minimum 1 hour.

Best way I've gone about this, is to reduce after dinner Netflix time, and encourage my partner to do something else she likes while I game - luckily she LOVES reading. So now she sits next to me reading while I game from 7:30-9ish some week nights.

Just compromise and balance. You'll figure it out.

  • 1 - Don't have a job… obviously not a great solution, how will you afford those loot boxes!!! And what about that sweet 2080ti!!!

2 - Don't have kids/GF/BF…you get the point. Very ideal solution. You'll be able to devote all spare time to your gaming. And best part, you'll be able to put the money you're saving on them to those loot boxes!!!

    3 - Make it your job….self explanatory.

  • In late night I can manage 1 to 2 hours only for gaming otherwise weekend is full on
