JB Hi-Fi Telstra Resellers

JB Hi-Fi just launched a bunch of new BYO plans

I'm considering the $45 BYO with 25gb data and $200 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card

If I sell the gift card for even $150, I will bring the cost down to around $32 per month.

Can someone please confirm that JB Hi-Fi's Resale of Telstra is EXACTLY the same as buying from Telstra direct?

I.e. will I still get undisputed best coverage in Australia? I've heard that resellers don't always get the same mobile signal priority as a genuine Telstra customer and as such, get a lower grade of reception during peak periods.

Is there any truth to this? Also, would I be purchasing a JB Hi-Fi Sim card or will I be purchasing a proper Telstra Sim card?

Thanks

Is there any truth to this?

No. It's just one big lie.

    • Not sure if serious?

      • JB onsell access to full telstra network not an mvno. It will be a telstra sim.

I'm fairly certain JB have their own satellite that hides in orbit behind the real Telstra satellite and as such offers a diminished service.

I also saw Elvis at McDonald's but he denied everything.
        (but of course he would).

I did exactly this for $59 per month with 25 gig data, $200 gift card and $10 credit a month.

Con confirm it is a telstra sim card on the telstra network, telstra bill etc

Lol most conspiracy theory post of the year

  • If you sign up at JBHIFI can they add the new service to your current telstra account. We already have NBN and mobiles on the one account and would like to add another.

**not related but did you see that telstra have now stopped issuing the $5 data share sim as of July. I have three but would have liked another one or two..

I believe you can still get it if you're on a legacy plan - saw a similar thread on WP as I'm in the same boat. That being said I'm not sure if I can keep the $5 companion sim (essentially data share but with unlimited calls/sms & int'l roaming) going if I want to cancel it and then get it again with a new #.

      • Yeah those companion sims were a great deal.

  • Hopefully Optus pushes an offer to compete with this at the $40 max mark.

    • Amaysim (optus) has 20GB for $40 and 40GB for $50

      • No gift cards though :(

He's the gift that keeps on giving. How do I get an alert whenever he posts a comment or topic?

Go to his profile and click subscribe

  • Exactly the same. What they use is the same system 'seibel' just with less access than directly employed staff and JB as you have noticed does their own offers.

I got the $49 plan for $29 and 25GB and $200 from JB (got the extra $10 off and 5GB from Telstra directly).

I can confirm the service is directly from Telstra. JB basically signs you up through Telstra's portal in the store and Telstra ports your number and activates the sim.

    • Can I ask for clarification regarding how you got the discount from Telstra?

Did you purcahse at full price from JB first, then ask for a discount at Telstra?

If so, what method did you use to contact telstra? Online chat or phone?

      Thanks!

    Just did it.
    real telstra serviceļ¼Œ
real gift card with no strings and expire date.

  • I've bought all my phones/plans in recent memory from JB, as in my experience they know more about Telstra's products than people who work for Telstra do.
