  • Does this work with Samsung S8 S9 Note 8 Note 9?

    • I don't have one of those phones, I have a Xiaomi Mi Max 2.

I have plugged it into my phone and it powered on, I then plugged a USB flash drive into it, one of the ones available in this post and it reads the file fine.

      So it should work.

      • -1

As in work with HDMI output to TV from Samsung phone?

        • +1

          as in

I then plugged a USB flash drive into it.. and it reads the file fine

        • My phone doesn't support it so I am unable to test.

    • +1

I had similar adaptor for MacBook, plugged it into my mates Samsung S8, USB drive works like a charm, sweet as.
But we didn't had a luck with HDMI output to monitor tho. Idk about this one but yeah mine didn't work at all. Maybe it requires a AC powered one.
We ended up getting a dex at the end.

      • +2

For S8 you need a specific adaptor that works. Not all usb c to hdmi will work. I have a note9 and tried a cheap generic usb c to hdmi adaptor and it works fine. I believe this adaptor will work on the samsung phones that doesn't require dex dock.

    • I found this one to work with my Note 9 - including dex mode to my TV.
$29, can use a usb hub to add more perihperals too.

I have this and works great with my Asus Zenbook.

    • Can you charge your Zenbook with this?

      • +1

        Yes, certainly can.

  • +1

Will this work with the Lenovo Yoga 920 and Lenovo Yoga 910, but this is a 100 Watt Power delivery? Will it still work?

    • +1

This works with USB 3.1 Type-C, which the Lenovo Yoga 920 has.

      • So not the Lenovo Yoga 910 correct?

        • It will work with all Laptops with USB Type-C.

      • +1

Great. Thanks OP. Got one for 920. Reviews look gr8.
Realised while checkout that I had $10 Amazon gift card making it $27 :)

  • Will it work with Surface Go?

    • The Surface Go has USB Type-C so it will work.

  • Rep will this work with Nintendo switch?

    • I don't believe so, I have tried to find more info for you but no Luck.

I think if it did it would be sold as a Nintendo Switch Hub.

    • Only use official switch adapters.
Nintendo (profanity) up the USB-C spec and if you plug 3rd party adapters in, you can brick your switch.

Any news on the ethernet version?

    • +4

Not yet, but it will definitely be on my list of recommendations of products to introduce into Australia.

  • Whew, am I glad my laptop has all the ports you will ever need so I don't have to deal with this rubbish!

    • +2

I don't get the trend for pointless minimalism. Wow you saved 2 millimeters off my laptop height but now I have to carry a dongle everywhere if I want to do anything productive.

    • What brand and model is your laptop?

      • Probably a macbook

      • Dell Vostro 7570
Bought it on on of the ebay deals back in January as far as I remember. Has everything you need for the past, now and the future!

        • Combo jack (headset/mic)
        • USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A (5 Gbps)
        • USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A (5 Gbps)
        • USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A (5 Gbps) with PowerShare
        • USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C (with support for 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 3 and DisplayPort)
        • HDMI
        • VGA
        • Gigabit Ethernet
        • SD card reader

Can't get any better than this!

  • I have an early 2015 MacBook Pro. How can I tell if it takes the USB type C connection?

    • +1

It doesn't. USB C has a completely different port design than traditional USB.

      • Thanks.

    • I also have an early 2015 MacBook Pro (13") and it doesn't support USB C :(
I'm tempted to upgrade, but as yet haven't found a compelling reason

      • The 2018 models, both 13 and 15, are the most compelling reasons to upgrade a MacBook Pro in years. Performance is insanely better than 2017 and older models.

  • I see this has pass-through charging, I have tried countless dongles (spent over $400 trying) to get passthrough charging working on my Samsung TabProS but nothing works happy to try this is you think it will work with a single USB plus HDMI out.

    • +2

TabProS is one problematic device. I believe the only adapter that has only worked everyone is the official Samsung mulitport adapter.

      • Confirmed not working unfortunately mate (both tested and called through the samsung hotline)! Its slow/was expensive but I need LTE on it and hate the thought of a separate device for data. Hope the new Qualcomm devices fill this void.

      • To be clear do you think its impossible for pass through charging due to hardware limitations and I should just stop trying!?

  • +1

Is the 4K HDMI 30Hz/30fps only? Or, it supports 60fps? I am going to guess 4K@60fps+HDR won't be supported.

    • +1

      Hey mate. It supports 4K/30fps & 1800p/60fps.

    • Without Thunderbolt there's enough bandwidth for 4K/60 + USB2.0, or 4K/30 + USB3.0.

      • USB-C (the current form - without Thunderbolt) doesn't have enough bandwidth. Most, if not all of these USB-C hubs are 4K/30. It's okay for presentation, but I need 4K/60 + HDR (so I still need a separate cable for display).

Not sure whether there is any decent Thunderbolt hub. It's annoying for people with a Donglebook (Macbook Pro).

        • If you don't need portability there's a few nice (but not cheap) Thunderbolt 3 docks out there. I haven't seen anything portable that looks legit.

  • +3

There is a lot of confusion around Type C. People assume all Type C ports can accept a charge, they can’t. Ide say most laptops I see can’t be charged over USB Type C. Keep that in mind if you are buying this for that reason.

    • +1

And then there are laptops where the USB-C port is for charging only and all these additional ports will not work… like some HP notebooks.

The ol' Google would tell you anyway what your device does and doesn't support.

      • Yes and then there are laptops, like some of the HPs again, that dont charge over USB C with anything but their own docks. USB has become a nightmare in my opinion. An expert on Thunderbolt might be able to comment but my understanding is for proper charge support the USB C port needs to have the lightning bolt icon next to it.

        • Thunderbolt isn't necessary as it's a third party standard. USB-PD is the official charging standard.

        • The only real advantage of USB-C/PD charging is that if the laptop has multiple USB-C/PD ports, you can connect the charger to any port you want. The lightning bolt icon is not a good indicator for power (Macbooks don't use that icon for USB-C ports at all). Intel uses that icon to indicate a Thunderbolt port (no power delivery support on that intel branded device I just checked). This particular item uses the same icon to indicate the USB-A port can draw more than 0.5A (if you read the MacWorld review on this product, you can derive that USB-A ports without the lightning bolt icon are limited to 0.5A).

Personally, I prefer MagSafe over this USB-C/PD garbage Apple put on the new Macbook Pros. Being able to use 3rd party cables and chargers for power may not be a good thing. When I did my testing, even AmazonBasics (USB-IF certified) cables are not always reliable and can fail to engage PD properly (charging only at 5V - and that was using Apple original charger). If you don't have a USB-C power tester, you cannot even tell it is charging at low voltage.

Also, USB-C/3.1 gen 2 cables, a lot of them failed Benson or Nathan K's tests on PD side (inc. some Anker ones). Does it really make sense to buy a high speed cable with above average PD support? Even Apple's USB-PD cable is limited to USB 2.0 only. In reality, USB-C creates a lot of mess.

Before you get all excited about the 100W support on this. You still need a USB-C cable that supports 100W - which probably means an original cable (and a charger that supports at least above 60W to test it).

          • @netsurfer: thanks for the write up. do you have any recs on a 100w cable/charger?

            • @191919: Before the introduction of USB-C/PD on laptops, most people were happy with just 1 set of power adapter. Now, these 3rd parties try to entice you to buy their products based on price. Make sure you REALLY need a second set as tech products depreciate in values so over investing in accessories is unwise.

If you must get another 100W cable, get the Apple one. USB-PD on USB 2.0 is simpler and less error prone (getting e-marker coded correctly for USB 3.1/USB-C/PD isn't easy - and a lot of 3rd parties are clueless and coded it wrongly). We don't have any good alternative 75W-100W charger with AU plug. Going for US plug + a converter is not a good idea (good converters are expensive and bulky, cheap ones have really thin/cheap power plug and can be loose.

    • +1

Thanks for letting us know. Do you know if the Dell XPS 13 would be charged with Type C? :)

How come the "Space Grey" version says it's the older model on Amazon??? Seems like the description for the Space Grey one is different to the "Silver" one, and it mentions nothing of 100w pass through capability.

    • +1

Hey mate, The Silver & Space Gray definitely have the same capabilities, the only difference is colour.

The 'Newer Version' is a different model, with Ethernet instead of HDMI, that hasn't been made available in Australia yet

      • +1

Your "space grey" link is to this: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B01K7C53K2 and when you goto that page AMAZON advises that there is a newer model and provides this link https://www.amazon.com.au/HooToo-Ethernet-Delivery-Network-A…

If you look at that "newer model" the specs look exactly like the "silver" version!!!

        • +1

Sorry, the 'Newer model' has both Ethernet and HDMI but not a card reader.

I will ask the Rep to fix up the Details for the Space Gray Version.

          • +1

@xev: thanks, please let us know to link to the newer model when it's available :)

            • +1

@191919: Hey mate, I think Amazon may be saying it is a 'newer model' as the model number for this one is HT-UC001 and the other is HT-UC007. They are a different version with different options.

Thank you for adding your voice to those requesting the HT-UC007, it will help strengthen my case to the Rep for bringing these to Australia :)

I bought this for my MBP 2017 model last year and paid about $100 for it. This works great. Great bargain at this price.

  • I have recently ordered SATECHI TYPE-C PRO HUB /40GBS THUNDERBOLT 3 / 4K HDMI /2 USB 3.0 - SPACE GREY for $90 for my 2017 MBP.

  • I'm yet to find a USB-C dongle that supports 60Hz @ 4K. Sadly, it doesn't look like this one supports it either. They all, presumably, use the same underlying chips, so until a 4K@60Hz chip comes along, we're all stuck with needing a cable for 4K@60Hz AND a dongle for non-display accessories.

  • I purchased this device a couple of months ago for a Macbook. Overall it's a good product and I'm quite happy considering some of the stories I've read about the quality of dongles generally. It's a good price too. One thing I will say is that I've found the HDMI out works with all of my monitors perfectly (tested on >5) but it works very poorly with projectors. I've tried on three projectors and every time the image flickered heavily - to the point that I didn't feel comfortable using it for a presentation.

  • Do you have the same but just with normal USB not USB 3? Or does it work with a USBc to USB converter?

  • Any chance of another Bluetooth earphone deal? I know the other one just ended but the ones I'm using are on their last legs.

  • +1

Doesn't seem like the codes work anymore. Any chance someone can update the codes??
