PC Wireless WiFi adapter USB or PCIe?

Hi guys,

is there any difference between getting a USB or PCIe wireless adaptor for my home PC?

Having low ping for games is important to me, if that makes any difference.

in addition, is there any reason why i should stay away from cheapie ebay ones like this

USB devices sometimes to never stops working.

    PCIe never has that problem.

Not sure about any latency differences, I suspect it wouldn't be large.

  • In terms of latency you want the clearest signal. Try and get a PCI card with detachable antenna so you can run your own large external antenna on a high shelf

    no difference

but some usb wifi comes with docking cable which you can position better for stronger signal rather than pcie antenna that hid behind your pc facing wall

Get PCIE, less issues and you will get a better stable connection

    • Could you lead me to what possible issue you refer to?

      • Variable speeds and dropouts due to limitations of USB, I just got a $50 tlink card pc and I'm getting the full 100mbps speeds where possible from my NBN connection

  • apart from taking up a USB port there isn't much difference.
i prefer PCI as i prefer all important things like that inside my case.

Stay away from anything that isn't AC wifi, AC will allow you to connect to 5ghz wifi (that is unless your router/modem is ancient and doesn't have the 5ghz wifi) 5ghz is much better for gaming since it provides a more stable connection with less wifi interference and less ping spikes.

Ive had the issue before, nothing beats Ethernet but if you must game on wifi go 5ghz.

it seems they have gotten cheaper since i last looked for one, no idea how well it will perform. i'd go the one with the big antenna

    Then get wired…

But no, as others said if wireless is necessary, PCIe > USB. It's just a more stable and direct connection to your motherboard/CPU.
