Better ADSL2+ Provider (Optus vs TPG)

Looking to get a decent ADSL2+ internet plan, my suburb does not have NBN.

Your recommendation and/or experience (speed, routers reliabilit, customer service etc) would be appreciated on these two providers. Happy to hear any other providers that provide better service within the price of $65 p/m.

Please note we are not a heavy user of internet, don't play game or watch netflix, however watch iview (ABC).

  1. Optus $65 per month unlimited data (www.optus.com.au/shop/broadband/home-broadband/plans?bt=UDSL…)
  2. TPG $59.99 per month unlimited data (www.tpg.com.au/products_services/adsl2-standalone)

Currently on iiNet with $79.99 (unlimited data) with no contract, however recently they refused to give me similar plan with a cheaper per month price i.e. first 12 months 40 then remaining 12 months for $79.99 (they had a promotion). Their rationale was it was only for the new customers. We are with iinet for the last 4+ years.

Thank you, appreciate your comment.

Really depends on your area for how congested it is but Optus network has a better reputation than TPG network. You could try calling iinet cancelations dept. as they are the ones with the power to move your plan to those 'exclusive' deals.

    • Re: Iinet, yep. This. BUT, you cannot call the department. You can only be transferred to them or have a callback arranged from them after you have requested to cancel.

Don't worry op, at least when I last checked last January, a normal CSR did not have the power to actually cancel your service for you, so you won't risk having your bluff called.

  • Call Iinet to cancel. You will be transferred to, or have a callback arranged from the retention team. This is the only team who can arrange special deals for you like you asked for (off-site), and you can only get transferred to them when you say you want to cancel.
