Ozbargain classifieds, only accept people that have been known to be reputable. Also let the buyer know it is their liability if it is lost and offer registered post letter at their expense or if you are feeling nice, buy it for the safety for yourself. Accept Beem It, Paypal F&F or bank transfer (wait for it to come in, Osko should come instantly if both banks accept it).

    • Yes choose long time members example, me hehehe

  • you should be able to find someone local to buy them at only a slightly discounted (5% ish) price.
not everyone knows of cashrewards, etc

Gumtree, but cash only and face to face. Preferably in the store so they can verify that your cards are legit. Its the safest option for you and the buyer.

I see what you nearly did there. Cute.

    • Safeway? Bit of a stretch.

        Aldi better next time

    • Unlikely as OP is from QLD so we have Woolies and not Safeway (Vic only??)

      • Transferred store names to woolworths but safeway name will stick for a few more years yet.

  • thanks s much for the answers.

may i please ask a follow up question — if i sell by posting in the mail, how can the buyer confirm the balance on the card without me (the seller) getting scammed? — i have the physical coles gift card - it has a card number, date of issue, ref no and value. it also has an access pin which needs to be scratched off to view the number (like the scratchiies lottery cards from the newsagent).

The pin not being scratched off would indicate it is at full value I would assume?

An unactivated card would also have its pin unscratched :)
Would not be hard for someone to grab a bunch of cards on stands in the shops and write $500 on each.
Checking the balance online is the most sure-fire way to confirm validity of the cards.

        To OP:

if i sell by posting in the mail, how can the buyer confirm the balance on the card without me (the seller) getting scammed?

How do you mean? Best way to transact would be they pay you, you make doubly sure payment is cleared before posting them the physical cards.
In all honesty though, considering the associated hassle, risk and the fact that you'd have to sell it at a lower value, why not use it yourself?
Considering it's Coles gift cards and not Myer or DJ's, surely you'll find something you need in Coles, effectively turn it into cash (or close to it).

        • I believe he's asking how to confirm legitimacy to the buyer, because surely, the buyer could be like "Hey, how do I know if there's really $500 in the card?" and the seller would need to provide details for the buyer to confirm — but, disclosing this information could lead into the buyer making a purchase online (for example).

I'm not 100% familiar with Coles Gift Cards, was just explaining on behalf of OP as I understand the situation :)

          Best of luck!

  • Only accept bank transfer to a non-merchant account or cash as a method of payment.

There isn't really any safe way to buy or sell, gift cards .
Probably not the answer you want, but it is the truth.

  • Please make sure payment is cleared before you send it so we don’t end up with another one of those threads…

  • I always read these sorts of threads (how do I NOT get scammed) and, due to working in an industry that sees the worst people, actually read them as a learning guide on how to scam people.

  • just asking how do sellers verify the physical cards to buyers without getting scammed before exchanging? see lots of them sold here.

want to assure the buyer the cards are genuine but im not going to have the buyer scam me if i give out the #'s on the card that will result in me being scammed before exchange.

      Simply not possible.
You always take some risk when trading online.
There are ways to help minimise the risks (e.g. trade with long time members with good community standing, put the risks on buyers by not giving them gift card details etc.) but the lowest risk would be trading face-to-face, but then you get those grab&run or give-me-your-money scenarios.
Just weigh up the risk and hassle and see if it’s worth your while.

  • thank you all for the help. have posted a for sale ad in the classifieds if anyone interested

From the posts I have seen your biggest problem will be finding people who want to buy them without too much discount.

True, OP only offering about 5% disount on over $1,000 purchase of gift cards that can only be used at coles.
Many savy bargain hunters would scoff at such small discount, especially given the potential hassles and risk associated with handing over large sum of money to complete stranger.
Maybe try selling them off to friends, family or anyone that knows you, and trusts you, then I guess they can evaluate the discount, and zero risk.
Or just use them yourself. Who doesn't go through $1,100 worth of groceries. I would expect most people spend about $100 a week at least.

  • I think physical cards has no advantage over eCard(much easier for delivery) in Coles.Given OP has a nearly fresh posting history,I doubt a savvy one will buy from you.

You'd better use them to buy Prepaid EFTPOS/VISA cards in Coles to use somewhere else. Many reports this method has been closed in Woolies, but not in Coles(I think).
