Do you get why people watch sport?

      • -5

you saying playing computer games is a sport?

        • +3

It's played in a competitive environment?
There are cash prizes and trophies?

          Playing soccer:
          Competitive environment.
          Cash prize and trophy.

          What's so different?

Edit: A 18 year old kid in Melbourne won 11million USD for winning Dota 2 eSports tournament. And you say it's still not a sport?

          • +1

            @imomox3: Tbh ceb carried him

          • @imomox3: Not to make it any less noteworthy but he only got about 2 million of that after it was split with his team.

            Still (profanity) amazing though.

          • @imomox3: To be honest, what you listed does not necessarily make it a sport.

Chess has all that but I do not consider that a sport.

For me, sport is any activity that is predominantly physical, makes you sweat and the individual (as opposed to an animal or a machine) does most, if not all of the work such as athletics, swimming, football, rugby, AFL, US football, tennis, basketball, hockey, volleyball, lacrosse etc.

So, by my definition this is not a sport. However, I do believe that whatever people enjoy (within reasonable boundaries of course) they should be allowed to do. If someone wants to pay to see someone else play computer games, why not?

    • Says the guy that probably sits on the couch every weekend watching AFL/NRL.

      • -1

Or play rugby union, Cricket, Tennis, Golf and cycle.

    • +4

Not sure why people would pay to watch sports when you could play it for less.

Probably because people enjoy watching people who are way more highly skilled then themselves? Regardless of what it is.

It's a computer game, not chess, not tennis, not darts not golf, not cricket….. do you sit and watch someone doing excel spread sheets because they better at it than you?

        • +1

I dont find enjoyment out of excel sheets however. Competitive games are fun to watch, and fun to play.

I personally cant stand physical sports, I find them all to be very repetitive and every match basically has the same thing happening.

But I know thats just my opinion, and that people are welcome to their own. Some people watch golf, others watch CSGO. Who cares really?

        • +2

Have you ever seen excel paintings? Actually interesting to look at.

        • OK man we get it, its not for you. Don't rag on everyone that likes it just because you don't.

        • +2

Hold up. So chess is an acceptable spectator sport, but video games aren't?
Then you go on to mention excel spreadsheets when chess is literally played on a grid. I'm sure someone savvy enough could run a chess game within excel.

In short, your argument holds no credibility and you should get reacquainted with the definition of the words sport and competition.

    • Cmon man. Have a think before you type.
