Selling Last Leg of RTW Business (OneWorld)

Hey Guys,

I have just finished booking my RTW trip for next year and despite my trying can not get all the way back to Aus, even looking at economy. So I finished all the bookings but as the rules state you have to end up in your origin country. To get around this my last actual flight is into Asia and I will buy my own ticket home but I had to book a domestic business flight within Australia.

Now usually for domestic flights they don't check IDs so I was wondering since I have a year after my 1st flight to have that final domestic leg in Aus, could I organise with a willing party to book the one way business tickets and sell them the boarding pass. Hoping that they will not get asked for ID?

I seem to remember someone on Ozb doing something similar, selling a ticket they can't change the name on.

Is there anything I should be wary of, such as no luggage because the desk would likely ask for ID or similar?

P.S. I also have the Virgin return domestic flight which has to be in my name.

Do you want somebody to pay you for the one way domestic fare which you've purchased in order to "complete" your RTW fare, which you don't actually plan on taking? And you have the return also booked in? If you, you need to provide some details to when and where this flight may be.

Yes that is what I was hoping I could do. This post was more of a could I do that and what are the things to watch out for.

The last flight I will be taking is to Asia and I have to buy my own cash ticket from there to get home.

To satisfy Qanta's rule for RTW booking I need to make one more flight into/internally in Aus. I have booked the 2x seats in J flight currently but I can change that for a 10k QFF fee. So after talking with the buyer I could change it to almost anything on a Qantas reward booking in J class domestically say West to East coast, for up to a year after my 1st flight (but after my last) within my RTW booking.

I didn't want to give too much specific details on it in this post as I will add that into the classified post when/if I put it up for sale.

Isn't flying under a false name a criminal offence? And you're wanting someone to pay you (a stranger) to facilitate this risk for them?

I have no idea, hence why I posted as to what things to watch out for.

    • Isn't flying under a false name a criminal offence?

How awesome would it be if the stranger got loaded at the lounge before the flight, started a fight on the plane … plane gets diverted and @knobbs gets a 250k bills for the airline's consequential losses.

  • Crossing your fingers you won't get asked for ID? Reputable airlines are meant to prevent changes for security reasons.

I have to say - my last 50 flights in Australia - nobody asked me for ID when using mobile boarding.

      • Hence what got me thinking about it

        • Your rational is funny though - you need to finalise the last leg and would like somebody to pay for that leg…Having said that, I'd do it for 20% of the ticket price.

@sydsm: Funny, how so? I don't need anyone to take the flight to finalise it. I have already booked it and don't plan on taking the flight, it is the last leg so doesn't matter. I am booking using the 280k QFF RTW booking. The price for me does not change whether it is in there or not, except for the taxes I pay on it.

I was looking at selling it as it could be a win/win if it works for both parties. I can sell the flight to make back some money on the taxes and the other party gets a cheap business flight. Else I just have a free flight I never take and pay tax on it.

@knobbs: I must have read it in haste. Sounds like a good plan. Where are you flying btw. I just booked a similar QFF RTW in Biz.

              • @sydsm: Congrats, it relieves a lot of stress after trying to get it booked for 3 months and it finally goes through :)

We are off to Japan, Norway, Paris, Scottland and the US before finishing up in Asia then home (no J though home, sigh). We also wanted to go to Peru instead of Scottland but LATAM weren't releasing J or even Y seats.

How did you go with your flight availability and locations?

                • @knobbs: Im starting off in Asia actually. HK, London, Rio, Brasilia, Miami, Key West, NYC and back to HK (all biz except the last leg - premium). There are so many sectors that do not show up on the qantas website, so we looked at direct routes on the Oneworld website and filled in the gaps. the research is half the fun!

                  good luck with your trip.

                  • @sydsm: @knobbs: Dont sell it you'll be fined and might be blacklisted.

@sydsm:Sorry I must have taken your spot hence no biz from your NYC-HkG

  • So for example, your RTW is Sydney -> London -> New York -> Vancouver -> Hong Kong but you can't find a seat for Hong Kong to Sydney so instead you book Cairns to Sydney to complete your RTW? and then buy a ticket for Hong Kong to Sydney?

    • Correct, except that the last leg doesn't have to return to Sydney. It can be any city within the origin's country. So you could book any reward flight domestically as long as it wasn't starting at Sydney (if that is where you started).

You could save your last leg for another trip. Just buy a cheap one way flight to asia and then return in business class. Better value than a domestic flight.
I've been looking at booking this RTW on and off but it's just so time consuming. Can I ask how much taxes did you paid for the RTW booking?

        • I was thinking that, but after RTW not sure how much more I want to spend on another holiday haha.

Taxes came to around 1.5k pp not the best but availability was hard as I am not gold/plat

  • Don't do it. It's a criminal offence for both parties. Just the attempt would be an offence. Someone was convicted of this, in Australia, not long ago; name splashed all over the media, online etc. You'd be crazy to risk it.
