Claiming TRS with Different Details

This may be a ridiculous query, but I was hoping someone had come across a similar problem.

I live in NZ at the moment, but occasionally come across to Australia. I purchased a laptop and had it delivered to a friend's house in Australia, with my details under billing address, and my friend's under shipping address. Usually this would be okay, but the company I've bought from has copied the shipping address across to the billing address field, so none of my details are on the invoice.

I was hoping to claim TRS on the purchase, as it's a substantial amount, and reached out to the company to change the details/reissue the invoice as it was in error, though they are unwilling to reissue an invoice with a change of details.

Is there anything I can do? I don't want to miss out on a couple of hundred dollars, but I definitely don't want to do anything questionably legal. Help!

so none of my details are on the invoice.

    Yeah that won't fly.

If you actually did order it under your name (only shipping details being different), I'd push back against the seller and insist on a correct invoice being issued since the money came from you.

  • Try to refund it if they won't change the details.
Odd they won't reinvoice when they are the ones that made the error with just coping shipping and billing addressee.

I had the same issue and TRS claim did not work

  • Yup faced the same issue, learnt the hard way.

  • The name check is only for verification with boarding pass when you are leaving.
PM me. Might be able to help you out.

  • Might want to threaten with some nonsense like "I put this name and address for this and that. If you don't cooperate, I'll report to ACCC" or something

    • Hahaha no, not straight off the bat. I'd start with - I bought this and I need my name on it for my taxes, and I don't want this causing trouble for either of us if it gets checked.
