Restaurant in Brisbane Rejected The Entertainment Book Voucher

Tried to use my entertainment book voucher on Sunday at Delizioso on Oxford in Brisbane. Got quite impolitely rejected and asked to pay the full price. I have paid thinking that I'm doing something wrong.

After that, I read T&Cs and obviously, they had to accept the voucher. Feel quite disappointed now. Is there anything to do apart from leaving tons of negative reviews?

Update 1 - as many pointed out the combination of EB and other discount may have not been appropriate. It looks like that restaurant staff member didn't manage or bother to explain it well. Hence the reviews are mostly related to the staff attitude, not EB itself.

Update 2 - owner is pulling "I will sue you for defamation, my lawyers are on it" line on the Facebook.

Update 3 - please don't leave the reviews to the business I you havent visited it. That would be unfair.

Wow, u must really hate this place. I found at least 4 bad reviews in different websites and then here.

My question is, why are the reviews not all the same? Some says that you ordered a $25 pizza (how did u arrive to a total of $66?), another is the service is too slow (maybe your buddy Steph says 1.5hrs?), another is about the rudeness of the shift manager, another about not honouring EB.

They all have the same tone though, that is poor service.

Yes, u should perhaps be honoured that voucher.

But anyway, staffs are often afraid to bend the rules, in fear of losing their job perhaps.

I'm now receiving messages from the restaurant on Facebook about that they will engage layers to sue me for defamation and bad reviews.

Tell them to save the money for lawyers and instead spend it on a good publicist……

  • Is this a restaurant that allows single dining? Not many do and if they don't they are definitely correct in refusing you as they want the discount to apply to the cost (profit) of 2 diners

    • What is the single dining? I travel a lot and dine alone in restaurants, never had an issue.

Worst that can happen is you'll be sitting at the bar if restaurant is super busy and you had no reservation.

Happened to me before, particularly with the ambassador card.

Say no worries. Ask for an itemised receipt. Once given take photo. Email entertainment book and they will reimburse you the money.

    Quite simple.

    • You forgot the "Post on Ozbargain forums" step :)

      • +1 to that. I always do that when restaurants don't comply. EB calls the manager/owners and charges them that amount + admin fee of around $80

I dine on EB vouchers in brisbane almost weekly. Never had this issue, though I've never been to that particular restaurant.

I would never do the Groupon + EB stack though, I just use the EB app for date nights. Tend to go back to places I like anyway.

    Strongly recommend Bacchus BTW.

That was an accident with vouchers. Argee with you I would never consider stacking as well deliberately, just too complex.

      Thanks for the suggestion.

I hate using vouchers at restaurants. I spend the entire meal knowing there is a decent chance I’m going to be arguing with management at the end of the meal. If you liked conflict i guess it would be fun - a good meal they can’t take from you followed by a rousing argument over money :)

Agreed, it's much more convenient and less stressful in the larger places where you pay in advance.

Im often avoiding the small businesses for the reason that they are inconsistent and can invent rules as the go.

  • Similar story on Tall Ship in Sydney
My mother was visiting and she likes a glass ( or two ) of wine, so I asked for unlimited bar option for 2 adults at additional cost.
But My son ( 10 ) came with us too, and they told me I had to buy unlimited drinks for him too, additional of $25 so he could have "unlimited" soft drinks.[as I could have provided him with drinks on my open]
Of course I would not, but I also know that other would do exactly that. So I just paid the $25, and we did not have to pull our wallets out on the boat.
    [ We took a Taxi home ]

    • …….. ok that's a little ridiculous. Your son's 10 - he's not just deciding to only have soft drinks, he legally can only have soft drinks. I wonder what would happen if you mentioned "alcohol licensing" and "accepting payment for drinks for a 10yo" in the same sentence.

On the other hand it's $25 and you probably don't enjoy arguing as much as I do….

      • Oh i did argue on the phone, quite a bit. In fact it was the last time I went.

  • EB is obsolete as far as I'm concerned… much better options out there (Eatclub, Liven, Clip, Dimmi). And yes I get that it's a 'charity' but I can think of other ways to donate. (Just realised it's Brisbane… I guess outside of Melbourne the options are somewhat limited)

This is the reasons why I’ll never touch those books.

It worth the hassle and fear.

Just ignore the book in future. It gets ranked below cash back redemption on tvs.

      Huh?

Both your ability to string a sentence together, and the eventually determined sentiment, are completely ridiculous.

  • I've been to that particular restaurant a few times, always using Groupon vouchers. Food and staff have always been excellent - though I've never tried to force them to use multiple vouchers.

    • Lucky! We had horrible experience using Groupon there and although food was good, the staff attitude was atrocious. I won't be going back.

Nice nickname:) agree on food been actually not bad.

  • My eb voucher was refused at a restaurant once, as it had new owners.

Called up eb , they sent me a voucher to another restaurant. Good service I thought.

  • There's a string of negative reviews since this thread went up

    • Negbargained.

    • Not sure that is good. I would discourage everyone from leaving a review without visiting the restaurant first.

There were plenty 1 star reviews in the past too, so I hope it's not ozbargainers leaving negs now.

    • On which site?

Google Reviews seems to be their lowest average rating, but nothing recent there.

This happened to me once at a place in Melbourne (for a BOGOF). The staff didn't actually know what the Entertainment book was. I paid the bill, got a receipt and asked for the staff names (not rudely or anything). The next weekday, I called up the restaurant and asked to speak to the store manager. I explained what happened and said that whilst we had a great meal, the staff didn't authorise the discount. He said, no issues, ycan ou come by again and he'll refund me the meal. So I did, he did it happily and I said "wow! that was easy and I'll definitely be back".

That was the end of it.

But yea, initially I was a bit disappointed and was considering going back to entertainment book as a next step. Hope you get your recourse OP, it's annoying when this happens.

    • Kudos for you for allowing the restaurant to fix the issue.
