Cheapest Fare to Vegas Flying Virgin

So I just got a temporary gold velocity memberships via the flybys promotion and I need to book some travel within the next 3 months in order to reach the 80 status credits required to maintain it for a year.

Vegas is my favourite city to visit so figured I'll take the opportunity to go for A short gambling trip.

My question boils down to this. Is it better to just book the cheapest fare available right now or should I wait for a deal to hopefully pop up in the next month or so? I'm very flexible with dates but has to be done within 3 months

    Points earned varies depending on the fare class booked too, so sometimes the cheaper ones might not get you over the line!

      Agreed. Be careful with the Fare Class. It tends to be hidden in the fare conditions and can be difficult to interpret. Some fare classes don't earn points with some carriers.

      I only need to earn 80 status credits though. I think economy one way to LA is 80

        I haven't looked recently, just pointing out points earned does vary based on fare type. So never assume you'll have enough without checking.

        Otherwise you can do a points run. I know you're in Sydney, but from Mel, doing Mel->Syd->Gold coast and then back again via Syd or CBR is a pretty good point earner for little dollars and can be done in a single day!

        Just hang out in the lounge for an hour or so between flights and off you go again! I'm sure there is something like that from Syd, maybe, Mel then to tassie and back to syd via mel or CBR again.

        But I would rather go to the USA and back for sure. But if you ran out of time to do that, there are 'options' around to get your points in the first 3 months and save the USA trip for a later date.

    Going to Old Vegas, mate? I loved it there. Went around the end of November last year and had a fricken blast.

    I have no advice on the tickets though, soz!

    Syd-lax 5 December, I’d buy the Vegas leg on a different ticket, it’s cheaper or drive up.
    should be around $1100 for lax return
    It won’t get cheaper before Christmas if you wait.

    Thanks ill check that out. Ant benefit going through an agency to see if they can get a better price?

    Also wondering if anyone knows if i fly with air nz will i still get velocity status credits and velocity points? I hate flying with delta… Everytime ive flown with them they seem to cancel the flight the night before!
