Have You Had Any Luck with Shipping Large Items from The US?

Hey guys, I'm keen to buy some floorstanding speakers, and I see that there are regular deals that pop up in the US on the speaker range that I'm looking at.

For example:
https://www.frys.com/search?search_type=regular&sqxts=1&cat=…

I'm primarily looking at the RP-280F, RP-280FA or the even the new RP-8XXX.

Prices sourced in Australia are in the stupid bracket, and I haven't been able to find a place in the US that will ship direct to me as it seems Klipsch blocks distributors from sending to other regions.

Have any of you had success with shipping forwarders? I haven't used any yet and we are talking quite large boxes here - about 32KG each.
Any you could recommend? Any tips or gotchas for me? Any way to minimise taxes?

All calculated quotes so far have come up at around the $250-$400 mark for each box, but the worst thing for me would be that they go back on their quote and end up requoting shipping at $1000+

I use MyUS regularly and haven't had any issues with them. They charge base on actual weight, not dimensional weight and works out much cheaper for bulky items.

Shipping for 32kg cost USD268 but you'll get 30% off (USD188 or approx AUD262) if you sign up with an Amex card. However, pricing is only valid for parcels with linear dimensions under 80 inches. Dimensions for RP-280FA on Amazon shows 19 x 10.5 x 43 inches but this might be the product dimension and the parcel's linear dimension might be over 80inchs. Can the store you are looking at purchasing from confirm the actual shipping dimension?

    • This 30% off Amex discount you get it all the time or just one time only? I know they have discount for premium members, this Amex discount is again on top of this member discount?

      • You get it for every shipment and the discount is 30% off shipping rates, not on top of the 20% member discount.

        • Thanks for the info.

    • That's exactly what I'm worried about, as I'm not sure what the actual box dimensions would be.

  • Freight forwarders may have an option to repackage your stuff which might help in this case.

Take a vacation in the US and the freight savings pays for half your ticket?

I had issues with shipito rejecting delivery because the package was arriving on a pallet. It was a huge automotive jack weighing around 45kg.

I spoke to the shipito admin on the phone, they confirmed they would look out for it and accept the package, yet the guys working on the floor still rejected delivery.

Ended up picking one up on my travels, dismantling it and bringing it over in multiple bags.

Might work if you can get a bag under the 32kg cutoff

    • Another potential issue, yeah. So what happens if these are oversized? Did you get a refund?

The retailer was really helpful, they looked into alternative shipping methods directly, but it was going to be in the $700 range so just ended up getting a refund on the first attempt.

Then had amazon deliver the item to a airbnb residence during a later holiday
