I would just like to hear the experience of others so give me some perspective on life
- If you were an expat before, where did you go? how was your experience? Would you do it again?
- If you never were an expat, have you even considered it? If so, do you regret not doing it?
- If you are an expat in Australia, how are you finding it? Anything particularly good/bad?
Expat in Australia - Originaly from South Africa.
Born in South Africa and lived there for all my life until about 3yrs of working. Amazing natural beauty in the Country unfortuantly with very complex problems. Maybe baised but you should go there to experiance the natural world, amazing animals and culture.
Ive now been out of South Africa for about 3 years of which i spent 4 months in Canada, 1 month in the US and remaining in Aus.
Canada was awesome, I was working pretty hard so only got to travel around the local area (Alberta) which was a good place to be. About an hours drive to the rocky mountains and Baanf national park. Also did a long weekend in Vancouver. Candian people are great!
Traveled the US for a month so wasnt an expat per say but i quickly realised that i wasnt that interested in big cities. Cool place non the less.
Then moved to Aus, crazy how quickly it was to intergrate. South Africans and Australians are pretty similar though so that helps. Pretty easy to just get on with life, great to not have to worry about safely, housing is prohibitly expensive otherwise life is good. Family being on the otherside of the world isnt great, but ive been back theyve been here and luckily we both can aford to do such things. Having a partner through all the above experiences also helps greatly. I do from time to time question if being away from family is worth "it" whatever it may be.
