$7.00 Google Play Store Credit for $2.49 (New 'Google One' Subscribers)

2430

Similar to the deal in https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/402962 however Google One has fully rolled out now for Australia.

For the price of $2.49, you can redeem $7.00 Play Store credit as your first Google One benefit which I believe can be used towards continuing the subscription too, which means 4-months for the price of $3.00 out of pocket. Alternatively you can just spend the $7.00 towards IAPs / paid apps.

https://one.google.com/about

  • Upgrade to the 100GB $2.50 tier
  • Redeem $7.00 Play Store benefit
  • Cancel subscription (you still maintain benefits until 30 days has elapsed) or keep it if you want!

Go here to cancel (Cheers No!)

https://imgur.com/a/5dV5z5i

  • Valid for one $7.00 AUD Google Play credit. Limit 1 redemption per Google One plan. Open to participants who receive a promotional code from Google One. Not reloadable; no cash value. Offer ends 2/28/19 and must be added to a Google Payments account by 2/28/19. Once added, credit must be used on Google Play by 5/31/19. Certain subscriptions excluded. Valid in Australia only. Must be an Australian resident, have Internet access on a compatible device and have or activate a Google Payments account, subject to Google Payments Terms. Age restrictions apply. See Promotional Balance Terms and Google Play Terms for more information. Promoter: Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA.

    Worked for me, thanks!

  • If i already have 117GB with my Google Drive, would the 100GB be added on top?
Effectively bringing my capacity to 217GB?

    • Hi mate,

Yes I believe so because the other 100GB was part part of a different promotion so it would be a different line item.

      https://imgur.com/a/eAeftTZ

    • How did u get 117GB??

        • I'm on the same boat. I'll wait till my 100GB free space expires (mid 2019) before opting into One. Don't have use for 215gb of storage.

      • +2

        1) 15GB is Free
        2) 2Gb permanent increments from past security checks every international security day. AFAIK, last one was 2016.
        3) 100Gb Free is temporary. Goto google drive app on phone, click on the hamburger icon on the top left and goto the bottom and click "help & feedback", then on this screen, click on the three dots on the top right and click on Product Tour.. go through the process, and if you're eligible you get 100Gb for 2yrs

        • Unfortunately the free storage doesn't stack like this, when you redeem the 100GB storage you can no longer use your free storage.

I had around 20GB free storage (my account was from the original gmail beta) and decided to buy the 100GB plan and now I only get the 100GB+security checkup.

        • @Agret: How/where do you get to see that breakdown? I used to be able to via Google Drive, now I can only see i've got 119GB via one.google.com without the breakdown like yours or One subscription

        • @Agret: So what happens then if you cancel the subscription? Would you stay on the same amount of storage until the 100 GB you received from the promo expires or would it just take off the 100 GB and you would then be left with only 19 GB?

        • +1

I just tried to do this, but there aren't three dots on the top right of the Help and Feedback screen. I have an iPhone with latest Drive app, so this part may not be available for everyone either.

      • There was a promotion for on the Samsung S4, all i needed to do was sign into my account from the device.

    Thanks OP worked for me.

    Cancel here

  • Can cancel any time?

    • +1

Yep - can cancel immediately. You still retain the subscription for the 30 days but it won't auto-renew anymore is all.

      • Awesome cheers mate :)

        • +1

wait so i basically get $4.51 free money and 100gb free for 30 days? I'm down.

  • It says $2.49 for me. You guys must be getting ripped off!

  • there is no option to cancel

Not related to the deal - the whole Google One thing: 200GB for $4.39 a month. Makes me feel like the Office 365 subscription with 1TB Onedrive a bargain for @$80 a year for 5 users with 1TB each.

    • Sure is! It is also why I also don't use Carbonite for backing up anymore.

Just wish they'd combine the 5TB so I don't have to create 5 accounts to use all the storage.

      • +2

have u seen the linus tech tips hack

they paid for Gsuite to get unlimited storage
found out there was a daily upload cap but it really is unlimited
but found a loophole where the cap is limited to per user on the account

so they wrote a script to upload their 1000s of GB of data to google via 5 accounts. it will take them months but essentially "unlimited" cloud storage for a FRACTION of traditional cloud storage

        • +1

          OMG didn't know about this.

I literally lost my "unlimited" amazon account this week (they stopped offering it). I'm already a basic GSuite user so for an extra $5 per month to upgrade to Business I got my unlimited storage back. Thank you!

    • It is crazy good, yeah

  • Great deal. Thanks OP. Just subscribed

  • anymore google store credit bounus deal . I need to top up about $50 Store credit to buy app

    • 50$ app? wow

    • $50 of apps!? what are you buying thats $50?

Sigh, another thing not available for G Suite accounts.

    • People have only been complaining about this for years and years. I mean, why look after business customers in any way?

      • -1

It's a different product, G Suite has always been an enterprise service, why should/would they have the same deal for two separate markets?

        • Can you share google one with a google suite account?

edit: I tried it and it doesn't work. Google families doesn't work on g suite.

        • You don't know what you're talking about. G Suite (formerly Google Apps) accounts were treated no differently to any other Google Account. Only in the last couple of years has everything they've launched been exclusive to normal Google accounts, with no word from Google why.

        • @khell:

G Suite (formerly Google Apps) accounts were treated no differently to any other Google Account.

A lot of things used to happen, but that's evolution for you, company's grow, initiatives and services change.

At the end of the day, G Suite is for business, and this service is for personal use, so to complain that one is different from the other doesn't really make much sense.

        • -1

          @Lorindor:

with no word from Google why

Please stop it with the defending Google for no reason. This wasn't the original functionality, and there is every reason to complain when G Suite isn't just some service you can ditch because it no longer suits your needs. Google now treats its own paying customers worse than the customers that pay nothing or much less (Google One is $2.49, G Suite is minimum $5/user).

        • @khell:

I could also ask you to stop attacking Google for no reason, but I won't.

Downvote my comments all you want, it still won't change the fact that you're expecting to receive the same features from an older service, that a new product aimed at a different market is receiving.

Google now treats its own paying customers worse than the customers that pay nothing or much less (Google One is $2.49, G Suite is minimum $5/user).

You're exaggerating a bit, don't you think? The $5 per user, per month gives you more than just cloud storage.

        • +1

@Lorindor: I have good reasons to be "attacking"' Google, but your grounds for defending them are baffling to me. You are clearly not a G Suite user and you do not understand that it's unacceptable for a company to screw over their users in the way G Suite users have been in recent years. Would you be so willing to defend them if Google did the reverse and limited more and more features to G Suite "business" users instead?

        • @khell:

Me not being a G Suite user has nothing to do with it, I'm aware of what both services offer and understand the difference between the two.

You're simply upset because this brand new service is offering 70GB more storage for $2.51 less, but yet they have completely different use cases.

        • +1

@Lorindor: It has everything to do with it, you shouldn't blindly defend something you don't have any idea about. I'm also aware you couldn't give an answer to my question.

You're simply upset because this brand new service is offering 70GB more storage for $2.51 less

I and many other G Suite users are upset for many reasons over Google's treatment of us as second-class citizens. This is just the latest shot fired. I'm even more convinced you should excuse yourself from this discussion if you think this is all there is to be upset over.

          completely different use cases

No, they were and still are the same use case until you consider Google's newer offerings like this. A G Suite account can do absolutely everything a free Google Account can do, right up until they abruptly can't. This is not how you handle paying customers who have been using your service perfectly fine for nearly 10 years until you inexplicably decide they should start receiving less than the free users.

had $2.50 from doing surveys! now I have $7.01

Did you signup to Google One for the first time? ie new Google One subscriber.

The benefit is listed here once you signup.

It's also in the 'Welcome! Let's get started email:

      A little something extra
To welcome you to Google One, enjoy a $7.00 credit for movies, games, and more on Google Play.*

      $7.00 credit on Google Play
Good for movies, apps, games, and more
      Redeem now

      • I'm an existing paid Google drive user, when I go the Google one site it says Google one is coming soon.

        • you should've got the email for credits in your gmail already you need to look for it
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/402962

        • @BoomTetrisForJeff: I think I'm stuck somewhere in between, I definitely don't have the email.

        • @Nuggets: I am in the same boat

        • @Nuggets: Right there with you. Downloaded the app and it said not available, click on the FAQs and it says it's available in my country and prompts me to sign up. I enter my email again and it says it's not available.

I received an email on 30/08 saying my google account was changing but nothing since then.

        • @praga: Did you figure this out? Still nothing here for me, existing paid Google drive user.

    • You have to first sign up to then get the redeem notification

    • Did you ever get this to work? I still can't sign up. Website says it's available in my country but it won't let me sign up saying it's not available when I try.

      • No, I just got my wife to sign up instead and cancelled my subscription.

        • Fair enough. I have my google drive at like 80GB full though so I'm not exactly a fan of having to reupload a bunch of stuff to a new account, especially since I use multiple android devices and have them sync across. Oh well, maybe I'll find a solution.

          • @kensaiD: Well the whole point of Google One is that you can share drive storage between users. So it's pooled, effectively.

  • Signed up how do I get the $7?

    • Nevermind

Excellent thanks for the free money!

  • Confirmed it works, just need to click on the redeem offer once in

  • Thanks OP! Now the dilemma of what to spend my earnings on

  • got it. thanks!

  • Cheers OP! had over $20 in google play credits already, used $2.50 to get $7 woohoo

  • I love that my Pixel has unlimited full res backups. I've taken lot's of 4k videos of my 5 month old daughter this year and it's all immediately in the cloud in full quality. I must be using well over a 100gb already.

    • I believe that the camera has to be more than 16MP for the photos to be reduced in size.

      • Videos are downscaled to 1080p

  • Easy. worked

  • Cheers OP! Worked for me no problem. Used my google opinion rewards credit.

  • Subscribed just now , but hv not received any coupons

  • uh can you keep doing this, on different accounts?

    • I don't see why not, but why would you want to? The credit would be tied to separate accounts, along with the apps purchased with it.

      • Could be used with Family Link?

  • Got it, cheers!

  • DIdn't work for me, existing Drive paying customer

Nice find, spent $2.49 google play credit from rewards to get $7 back

    • Nicely done. Same here.

  • +1

At what stage do you see the offer for $7? Went through all the stages before clicking "Subscribe" button, still don't see it. Do you see it after hitting "Subscribe"?

    • Yep once you subscribe - it should be in the main page ready for redemption - https://one.google.com.
Alternatively it will be in the Welcome e-mail which you receive after subscribing.

      • Great! All worked! Awesome deal!

  • it worked! free money, free money, free money…..

  • Got it using google opinion credits. Thanks OP. Awesome deal! Canceled Straight away!

  • +2

great post OP! paid $2.49 from google opinion credits too!

  • Anyway to get this if you haven't received an invite? I see no $7 when I go through the links

    • Subscribe first and then it will appear at https://one.google.com.
There's no mention of the $7 credit on the About Page. Not sure why Google aren't pushing this message, perhaps because in a way we're rorting them lol

  • So if I do enough Google Surveys in a month to get $2.49 credit then effectively I would get 100 GB storage for free. Great stuff.

  • Thanks mat gonna grab this and get rid of Dropbox which I use for photo uploads to clients.

  • Thank you OP :)

  • $2.49 play store credit for $7 in return!!! Thanks OP!

  • Cheers OP.

I've just noticed when I check my balance in the play store app it now says:

    Google Play Balance: $44.93
    Expiring: $44.93 promotion
    Deduction on 21/09/2018

No exactly sure what that date is referring to… never checked before so unsure if it said that prior.
All the credit is either from promos or rewards balance so may be a previous promo I forgot about… My last rewards survey was only a few days ago so will have a year from that date before any rewards credit should be expiring.

  • legend! i've subscribed, redeemed my play credit & unsubscribed! thanks OP
