I am now in Tokyo and I can confirm that when I withdrew from the WAON atm, there were no charges from both banks. I don't know what the daily limit is but I withdrew 20000 yen twice - one transaction after another. Please download the Citibank app so that you can immediately check your account. The rate was much better than the money changer that I enquired with. Please also google the locations of WAON atms. I went to the atm at MINISTOP (something like 7-11) in Ebisu.
There are Citibank atms literally everywhere that u can use to avoid fees.
All the major train stations have the Citi ones
So having said that, is there any point me exchanging cash before I go? Or just withdraw from an atm when I get there
almost everywhere accepts card and the reality is you get better exchange rates in Japan that you will ever get here.
i take maybe 100AUD converted for taxi or the like and then withdrawal cash when i get there
