  • Does this version have a lithium-ion battery or ni-cad? I've had a quick search but nothing is mentioned. Thanks

This is the old model, isn't it? The new model with lithium ion battery is the Oral-B Smart 5 5000, I think.

    • Thanks alvian

  • Is there much of an advantage over the cheap $20 oral b electric toothbrush kits sold at Coles?

    • +1

Definitely - any model below Pro 3000 is not as effective. But find one better than this deal.

      • Any recommendations?

        • Sorry just saw this comment. The other guy summarised it well - the bare minimum is 40,000 pulsations + 8,800 oscillations per minute. Here's a really good (but semi-outdated analysis: https://www.animated-teeth.com/electric_toothbrushes/oral-b-…). Pro 3000 is the best functional brush but it seems the newer Pro 1000 also hits 40,000 now.

The rest is deciding between the add-ons. Not all are gimmicky, and functions such as the pressure sensor and timer helps weed out a lot of bad habits (especially for kids, I bought a Genius 9000 for a 15yo).

Deals wise - keep your eyes out on Costco and Priceline/Chemist Warehouse catalogue sale (they sell out very quick). Shavershop sometimes has a sale too you can combine with first purchase voucher.

All the new oral b models over Pro 1000 have the oscillations in the range of 40,000 to 48,000. Its just that bigger models have different cleaning modes. Pro 1000 has 1 mode while Pro 2 2000 has 2 and so on. If it mentions "smart" then it means its got Bluetooth. Pro 4000 comes with Bluetooth and 4 modes. This Pro 5000 has 5 modes, a timer and a travel case. Genius models have 48000 oscillations and 10500 pulsations. So basically difference between Pro 1000 and Pro 5000 is the number of different modes, travel case, number of brush head and bluetooth. I have one of these. I only use 1 mode.Newer Oral B electric toothbrushes come with Li-ion battery so the battery lasts 15 days on avg. So you can take it on holidays as well. 20$ oral B vitality are weak compared to these and have Nimh batteries which needs to be constantly charged.

      • Yep, thanks for the info! The cheap ones definitely needs to be recharged almost daily.

But the oscillations and pulsations for the regular ones are really that worse off?

I expected the modes would be a gimmick as well as Bluetooth. But battery life is a great feature.

  • Is this a good price considering its the non lithium iron version?

  • Christmas gift sorted !

  • Am I going blind? I dont see Shavershop as one of the selected sellers?

    • +1

It didn't seem to be in the original deal, but if you go through the terms and conditions now they are listed.

      • Thanks. I did a dummy booking and discount code works.

Going to buy the 2 sonicare toothbrushes $499 - 20% off and $100 cash back bringing it down to $300.00. $150 each not bad.
