  • So is your desire for this device so you can prove it wasn't you at fault in an accident, or do you want to monitor the driving of someone else?

I wasn't aware gadgets like this existed (at an affordable price) until I saw this.

This device would be ideal for my bike rides to record incidents. I would have loved to have this when I was deliberately hit by a motorcyclist riding an illegal and unregistered motorbike on a bicycle trail recently.

  • Mind you if people using this are in an accident they caused the evidence can be used against them ;-)

    • not if you get rid of it ;)

      • After a car crash draws attention to you and assuming you were conscious I think it might be conspicuous if you went running into the bushes with something tucked under your jacket ;-)

  • This piqued my interest until I noticed the resolution of the video. There are similar products on DealExtreme that have HD resolution, so I guess if the clarity of the video is more important then the generic versions on DealExtreme may be the better buy.

Isn't recording without the other person's knowledge/consent kind illegal in Victoria (and perhaps other states)?

    • No. Don't know people get this from.

I think that only applies to phone conversations where it is covered by wiretapping laws. Not sure though. Check your local laws to be sure.

Also this was just in SMH:
        http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/cameras/cyclists-put-mett…

Police could take action after reviewing video footage, a NSW police media spokesman said. 'Such footage could be used by police to make further inquiries, but whether they used that footage to take things further would be reviewed on a case-by-case basis,' he said.

    • Such a law would pretty much make owning/using a video camera an offence… There is no such law.
There are however restrictions on what can be broadcast!

You're in a public place (the road). I think it's a little difficult to expect privacy there, especially in an accident

  • Anyone know of a similar device that can monitor your car when parked (from inside) and motion detect/record incidents to it?

    • you would need 360 degree viewing , sounds like a great idea though

      • I'm pretty sure I have seen them somewhere - had a wide angle so you need more than one for complete coverage.

        • If it would work with 2 , 1 fron and back and if it could do a panorama sweet.

The only thingk i would be concerned about is the quality and if its legible to be used for proof to insurance etc

    • A german shepherd?

      • Poor choice. Go for the Tosa or Presa Canario

US$1200. There must be cheaper versions though.

    • Ask ACA/TT what they use for their segments on dodgy mechanics and car detailers ;-) Don't use the old taxi cameras we see footage from on Crimestoppers. They aren't clear at all.
