Honda Jazz Oil Change Price Query

Hey guys,
I bought a Honda Jazz 1.3Litres Manual(2009) last year, since then it has been serviced once in Sydney for $140 including oil and oil filter. Its turn for the 90,000 km service now and i am getting quote of $170-$230 from different mechanics in Townsville where i reside.

Is this a fair price for the car service (just the oil change)? Also the Honda service center itself gave a quote of $190, dont understand why there is such a difference in costs ?

Usually a car service is more than the oil change, it should include some checkups.
However if you want to save you can change oil yourself. Will cost you $20 for the filter plus $40 for decent oil. Check youtube for instructions.

    • 20 bux oil filter ?

      k&n ?

i'd stick to 3 bux filter

      • I spent some time researching it last year. Ryco has very good price / value ratio.

I believe it is not a true OZbargainers way to use $3 filter and $5 oil

I don't know where people get $3 filters. And I would not recommend installing one on your own vehicle. Spin-on Ryco usually costs about $20.

        • I always stock up when Repco is on 20% and 30% weekend sale. Only if you have RAcV card. Buy k&n. Works out about 15$ after discount.
Try groupon too. I paid $49 for oil and oil filter change (near highpoint Victoria)

    • So the service book states only oil and cabin filter change. I already changed the cabin filter myself in the last service.

I can change the oil as well, as i pretty much DIY everything but disposing the oil and the tools required are a concern for me.

        oil , filter , washer
        wrench, pan, funnel
        jack , pair of stands

        • Another fear of mine comes from the resale value point, as i would be doing the service myself, wouldnt it decrease the sale value of the car?

        • @morpheous:

if it has full logbooks up to 90k , i'd keep it that way

but then if you're gonna keep the car for a few years more , logbooks ain't matter much for cars selling under 5k

        • @phunkydude: I do have the logbooks till 90k and i bought the car for $7400 with 75k on it, hence my worries.

Will try and search around for cheaper options with stamp.

Your service book will outline what a 90,000km service should include. Did all the mechanics quote for the same work?

      ^This

don't ever give a crap on whatever they call it 50k 90k 100k 10k mini minnie minor major mayor gigantic premium gold titanium titanic service

ask/check/compare what is included in the service

don't fall into marketing crap of "check washer fluid, check brake pads, check tires, check brake fluid, check battery, 9999999999999 points check"

Fine when you know what to look for, but for the non mechanically minded it is worth a mechanic checking over everything. Components wear out and many are not visible to the untrained eye.

    • Yes, all the mechanics are quoting for just the oil change as 90000km service is just oil change and cabin air filter (which i did myself in the last service).

  • Just ask him whats the item down?

Some other things he might be doing for 90K service:

    • New radiator fluid
    • New Transmission fluid
    • Wheel rotation
    • Spark plugs

Do you know when the last time these were done?

    • I actually just requested for the oil change and have been getting quotes from $170 - $230.

And the manual states just the oil change for this service so i am trying to work out the cheapest way possible for that.

Yeah i did the last service at 80k which costed me just $140 but it was in Sydney. Townsville being a small town and me being new here i havent been able to work out a cheaper service solution.
