Was shopping at the Helensvale Shopping Center this morning and saw fresh strawberries at a great price. The fruit market is located right outside Woolies. I bought a couple punnets and they taste fine to me. Helensvale is on the Gold Coast, QLD.

You must not have tasted strawberries to appreciate just how bad commercial ones are.
Strawberries do not ripen once picked, and commercial ones aren't picked fully ripened as they bruise and spoil quickly.
All commercial ones are bland.
Same with tomatoes.
My parents grow strawberries and I love fresh strawberries. At 99c for 500g they taste good enough. :)
Thats like 50c a punnet, wonder how much farmers get for this?
This type of fruit will be sold as '2nds' by the farmers. Basically not top of the line quality as correctly pointed out by Scab. For 99c, they tasted good enough for me but unfortunately, nothing in it for the poor farmers…
