Can I Price Match/Beat a Motherboard with This eBay Seller?

So I am currently looking at this motherboard. At the bottom of the item description they have a banner that advertises that they have a best price guarantee. Its much cheaper on newegg but with the PIXEL code I can get 20% off and if they do 20% off the price-match price that gets cheaper than newegg. The only problem is their customer service has closed for the day and the 20% deal finishes tonight. So I am in desperate need of advise, should I buy it and tell them about the price-match price and get the difference back between the original ebay price (so its the difference between the full price and price-match, not the 20% off price)? As far as I know, their invoice puts the full price and ebay deals with the coupon price difference so they won't see the coupon price at all.

  • My advice is that you're SOL.
    Just get the eBay/cheaper one and be contempt.

    PS Why don't you get an X470 instead, its better value since Ryzen is the better platform to be in?

    • Its not really in my price range. Last week on newegg it was a lot cheaper than it is now.

      X470 is kinda the same reason, its not really in my price range. I could get the cheaper x470 boards but they are worse off than the premium b450 and I don't really need the extra features (the extra features of the higher end x470 would be worth it if they weren't so much more).

      • Are you going for a cheap/low-budget build?
        (A320 <-> B350) + (r3-2200G <-> r3-2400G) + (No dGPU)

        Mid-range build?
        (B360 <-> X370) + (r3-1200 <-> r5-1500X) + (RX550 <-> RX560)

        High-end build?
        (X470) + (r5-1600 <-> r7-2700x) + (RX 470 <-> Vega64)

        ….but if you want the "value build" ??
        (X470) + (r3-2400G) + (No dGPU) ==> sell CPU/upgrade to r7-3700 and buy GPU GTX 1070Ti after 12 months
        (X470) + (r5-1400) + (GTX 1050 Ti-LP) ==> sell CPU/upgrade to r7-3700 and sell GPU/upgrade to GTX 1070Ti after 12 months
        The Ryzen platform is a strong platform with long-term support, trust me you would want to buy only ONE motherboard and get the best one upfront for better value (that is if you value your time).

        PS: I meant to type "content" not "contempt", stupid fat thumbs!

        • I have a 2600 and a r9 290x that I already owned. From what I have seen there is no reason for me to get the x470, especially since it costs so much more. I can get more features and a better board on b450 than a low end x470 and the only downside is I cant use more than one gpu at top speed or more than 4 sata drives, both of which are completely fine with me.

        • @AlmightyBeing:

          I would say your CPU is definitely high-end, and the GPU is ~GTX 980 or ~GTX 1060 or ~GTX 2060 or ~RX 580 or ~Vega32 level, which is also considered "High End" (but actually midrange) due to the 2017-2019 cryptominer market.

          I guess that's fine. The board you chose is pretty good, though still seems "a little off" going with a High-end build with a more Midrange board. I agree dual GPUs aren't worth it (never were), but the Sata drives are. Also X470 boards are built to a higher standard, so when you are overclocking your CPU/GPU you would see improvements due to stability of the power management. Not to mention that motherboards need software updates as well, and the board companies always give urgency to their higher-end products first.

          In my books, while a last years model/decent B350 board is the best value now… for the life of the system its not, because the higher-end new ones have benefits that come at a very small price premium over the systems lifetime. And a "higher end" doesn't mean RGB-Ultra-Mega-Gamer gimmick thing… read some online reviews/youtube to learn more.

          If I were building a system, I'd try to be smart about it (since these "toys" can be expensive), and I would get the best case, best motherboard and best PSU upfront, there's not going to be many/any improvements in that sector (at least in the lifetime), so you may as enjoy the fruits as early/as long as possible. This goes doubly for keyboard, mouse, headset, mic, speaker, desk, chair and the like. Most of that technology has peaked. Contrary the CPU and GPU can be upgraded and will see major improvements… this is where I would compromise upfront (ie don't try to "futureproof" irresponsibly). I would be cautious about the monitor though, they also get improvements bi-yearly and they're the most expensive part of the system, perhaps this should be sorted out first and the system built around it.

    • +2

      Just get the eBay/cheaper one and be contempt.

      I'm always most contemptuous after getting a cheaper price too.

  • My bet is they won't honor the difference, may aswell purchase from them anyway and try tomorrow since it's already cheaper.

    • what do you mean already cheaper? newegg is $192 and the price match is $218. it only gets cheaper with the 20% AND the price match. I can't price match newegg because it needs to be Australian stock

      • Mis-read

  • That price beat guarantee seems to be from eBay itself. The way it works you can buy the item on eBay and I'd you find else where cheaper within 48 hrs and from eligible online retailer they will give you voucher. I tried to go back to listing but the link seem disappear.

    • It's the sellers own banner at the bottom of the description and it says to message them so I don't think it is connected to ebays price beat. The link still works for me.

      • It just says 30 days money back guarantee - they don’t say they will price match anywhere

      • Sellers own banners advertise eBay sales and promotions all the time.

      • Ok I see that banner now. It says Lowest price not necessarily they will price match, it may even meant that they will not accept any offer for cheaper price. What I can see is that you can go for eBay lowest price guarantee instead. Checkout their policy.

  • No chance

  • Generally be aware that many companies/sellers will offer any additional discount on "RRP" not what the street price is.

    I remember selling Amiga at Computerspot Burwood in the 90's and educational prices were discounted from RRP. To Explain

    at the time we sold Amiga's at 499 each making about 40 bucks on each sale, the software we made 70 plus percent so it was really a loss leader.

    Edu prices were around 18 % off so we constantly had teachers with edu paperwork wanting them for about 419. They screamed and cried when told if they presented the edu paperwork we HAD to sell at rrp less the 18% which made it around $655.

    So be aware of skulduggery with flea-bay sellers
