    suitable for driving;

    PolariSed lenses are not suitable for driving. They can be very dangerous.

    • +3

      Do tell. Why?

      • very dangerous early morning and late evening.

        • +1

          What evidence is there for this?

          @DeepDreamer:

          What evidence is there for this?

          Physics

          @jv: Confirmed my suspicion. I fed the troll. Sorry, everyone

        • I think you're making a gross generalisation.

          Even if early morning and late evening light has a greater degree of polarisation, the angle of filtration on the glasses would also have to be considered to determine how much light would be blocked out. Similar to how polarising filters on cameras requires the user to rotate them to adjust the degree of filtration.

          And in any case, it only becomes dangerous when too much light is filtered, whereby common sense would tell you to not wear the glasses anyway.

          @jv: I wasn't going to refeed the troll, but I'll take the risk just for the sake of those playing along at home. One point for @jv.

          The link has some evidence. However if one is wearing sunnies in the early morning or late evening, one has bigger problems. One might consider, oh, I dunno, removing sunglasses in situations of low light

      I drive with polarised glasses nearly every day; they simply remove some reflected light thus reducing glare.
      Unless you're driving on ice or something I don't see how they could be dangerous.

      Please enlighten me.

        morning and evening light is highly polarised.

        • +1

          Polarised lenses are a good choice for drivers because they dramatically reduce glare from headlights and light reflecting off of wet surfaces on the road. This makes for a much more comfortable driving experience by reducing the strain on your eyes and providing UV protection.

        • @bindassever:

          providing UV protection.

          Polarisation is hardly adequate for UV protection. You glasses will need a UV filter coating for that to be effective.

        • Yes there will be more polarised light when the sun is at more of an angle; but polarised lenses don't block all light.

          The will only block out some of the light, and they'll actually be more effective in the morning and evening and HELP with driving as they will remove reflections that otherwise might be distracting.

          Have you driven with polarised lenses before?
          I still fail to see where the danger is.

          but polarised lenses don't block all light.

        • So you're still yet to actually explain how they are not suitable for driving.

  • Anyone know if these work OK with rimless glasses?
