I'm even now more unsure how Qantas value their points, paticularly after the saga around the price jacking of RM Williams Boots in their current Qantas Online Store Sale.
The boots were originally available for 2000 points + $315, then the dollar cost was increased to 2000 points + $399. The "on sale" points cost remained the same 56,900.For comparison there is currently another sale item listed on OzBargain, a Seiko SRPB46J Presage Watch which is 2000 points + $313.The overall sale points cost is 56,460.
I would have thought the points value would be relatively consistent, but obviously not.
Who knows what drives these things?
I think there is a standard $ amount for each point that they have, but I think that the RM Williams may have been Ozbargained, and Qantas saw that they were being bought very quickly all at 2000 points + cash so they decided they could make more of a profit from it (just my opinion and based on observation) The watch and the RM Williams have similar point values and had similar 2000 points + $ as well prior to the price increase.
