[Android] Military Insomnia Technique - Free (Was $1.99) @ Google Play

301

Hey everyone,

Much fuss was made last week of a US army technique to get you to sleep in under 120 seconds. It was featured all over the place, so we decided to make an app. It does the steps voice guided so you don't need to remember them.

It's free for launch for the next few days, then it will revert back to its $1.99 price. Have at it! It will go on special at 10am (0 GMT) if you try too soon.

The iOS one is pending approval, it will be free for a few days after release too, I'll post that in a separate thread once its available to all those Apple users out there.

You can read more about the "technique" here:

PM me if you want a promo code for it free tonight

        • @rknell: If you have a spare code. I'll give it a try tonight…

    • Yeah sorry it goes on sale tomorrow @ 10am. I wanted to make it free now, but because Google that's the soonest I could do it.

I'll PM you a promo code you can use for free in the meantime, anyone else who wants one just let me know.

Edit - I tried to send it over but for some reason it says you don't accept new messages. Flick me a message if you want a promo code or just wait until tomorrow.

If this works on guys killing Middle Eastern children to secure the interests of the United States of America and Israel hopefully it will work on me, except I don't discriminate on the nationality of the child.

    • Australia is aiding the USA in committing these war crimes.

      • And the parents of these kids are the ones planning to install a worldwide Caliphate by killing all non-believers.

    • +5

The wording of your comment makes it seem like you kill children regardless of their nationality.

    • Think, then type.

  • Modanifil plz

  • Has the OP got this backwards? The US military and CIA are experts in sleep deprivation techniques.

    • And waterboarding.

In WW2 they executed Jap soldiers for torture, specifically waterboarding.

    • Yep! the app follows whats in that article

    • +7

Thats right, it repeats exactly that but gives you auditory guidance so you don't need to try and remember them as you go down. Its not rocket science at all but I figured it could help and punched it out in about 24 hours. Just put it on, put your phone out of reach and follow what it says.

I want the Gilbert Gottfried narrated version.

        • hahahaha

    • DELET

    • woa, I've been doing most of these step. Except for these

Picture yourself lying in a canoe on a calm lake, nothing but blue sky above you.
You can also picture yourself snuggled in a black velvet hammock in a pitch-black room.
And finally, you can also try saying 'don't think, don't think, don't think' over and over again for ten seconds. "

Most of the time I am able to 'stop' thinking. But it has been overridden lately. Nonetheless, thank you OP.

The irony of putting sleep apps onto a phone shouldn't escape as many people as it seems to have. Not using your phone before or in bed is probably one of the best things you can do to improve your sleep.

I respect your attempt to capitalise on the news article, though. Although, I am not sure how giving it away free helps you.

Lol yeah, the one bit of innovation I added to the "technique" was to add a small checklist before you start. One item is "put your phone out of reach"… Which will probably help more than the system anyway.

On the capitalising part it's a bit of an experiment in organic app store Discovery and headlines. In the 24 hours before it went free I had a surprising number of paid downloads.

  • Anyone grab this? Is it legit/asmr?

    • -1

I got it and tried it last night.

The 3 screens shown in the preview screenshots appeared, then the screen went black and NOTHING.

      At best it's broken/buggy.

At worst it's a trojan horse.

For mine complete waste of time and effort.

OP FYI - Samsung Galaxy S8

      • +2

        Thanks Aussietivoman,

It may be buggy, but definitely not a trojan.

The audio was the hardest part to get right because the phone systems like to shut it down when the screen goes off. It works for me on my Google Pixel, and iPad, and Samsung Galaxy Tab. Unfortunately, I don't have a Galaxy S8.

It doesn't manipulate the volume though, I know it seems obvious, but did you turn it up?

Were you the one who gave the 1 star review on the app store? If so, I have your details, otherwise that person also had an S8 so there could be something with those devices that doesn't like it.

        Anyway, would love your feedback.

        • Worked for my on S9. I think the person you're replying to was a victim of your UX perhaps? Maybe put an actual countdown or progress bar to show the 30s timer.

@MikeWhitneysHair: Thanks, yeah wouldn't surprise me. We are trying out a new app development platform with this app so its not as polished as it would be normally. Cheers for your feedback.

Also a heads up we have just commissioned a female voice as well, so that update will roll out in the next few days and also address some other small issues that have come up.

Don't bother downloading. It is a brief audio recording of some of the instructions.
