    Copypasta

    I prefer pennepasta

  • Thks grabbed 2, for $15 each and with card reader seems handy, hope it comes with a couple of cables.

    No hdmi :(

    • Oh yeah… Hdmi would have been nice

    • But it's $15, not $150 like the bigger HDMI/DP docks/hubs…
Though I'm not sure the killer feature here, usb-pd pass through, is going to be useful to anyone without a 12" Macbook. Mentions 15v 2a input. It also mentions only 5v output but I would assume that's not referring to the pass through but the usb-a ports…

  • Is this mains powered?

    • +2

no, powered off the USB C so you need to power from the MacBook or PC, or have a charger with USB C PD, the idea is feed the hub with the charger, and the hub chargers the notebook.

If powering from PC you will need a UCB C 3.1 extension c cable (male to female), they are about $6-7.

Advantage over hub with 3.1 fly lead is a cable breaks, get a new one, want longer cable get one, if fly lead breaks ditch the hub.

Had hoped it might come with the cable already but doesn't seem so, seems targeted at notebook owners, not desktop owners.

    Listing price $99.95 lol

  • A lesson to share: never buy cheap usb c hub.

    • ???

      • +2

From what I hear, the cheaper ones tend to overheat and interfere with wifi. Intel even did a paper on it: https://www.intel.com.au/content/www/au/en/io/universal-seri…

yep, usb 3 is high wattage and high frequency so would be high on emf and rfi if not shielded properly and you have devices sucking up high current, unsheilded cables act as antennas , all connectors i’ve seen are already shielded and earthed.

unfortunately many things are made down to a price not up to a standard in the aftermarket segment.

i haven’t had issues personally and i always buy thick shielded cables for usb 3 ….

      • Yep, the simple and quick explanation is poorly built USB C
        1. has the ability to fry your motherboards
        2. never perform to standard
