I am looking at Optoma UHD51 because I can only provide 2.7m Throw distance for the 100 inch view. Specs look fine. This projector is available in USA for $1700 (2400AUD). But, I could not find that sold in Australia. It came to market in May 2018 though.
Do you guys have any idea why it is not available here?
Some dodgy looking sites offer it for $3300 AUD. But, I am not buying from them.

Looks legit to me.
Without sifting the explicit details on specs, I was wondering if the OP/anyone would know the difference b/n the UHD50 & UHD51?
Cheers
I am going with UHD51 because of 3D. I love watching 3D movies at home. But, the price difference is $1000.
And Contrast Ratio seems to be better, so can expect better black I guess. Thats all.
Ok cool.
I purchased the BenQ W1700 to replace the W1070 as the 1070 threw ~ 110" @ 3m due to limitations of the room
So I "assumed" that the successor would be the same .. one thing I didn't research LOL … the W1700 throws ~ 95" @ 3m … How wrong was I! ..I'm spewing ..
In comparison to the 110", 95" looks like a massive downgrade.Btw, I think the Optoma will be the same as the W1700 has a slight light border ~ 5" on the outside which is very, very annoying. E.g. on a 110" Overall Image Projection = 5" light border outer + 105" inner image
Please view the image in person if you can before purchase to see if it's for you.
I understand that the Faux-4K projectors are becoming affordable however IMO, I'll wait a little more until they get more refined.
Cheers
hmmm.. I own a W1090+ and love it ( except for the noise it makes) I was looking at W1700 and saw the throw rationwas higher. So I did not go ahead. Optoma’s throw ratio is 1.21 which is 2.7 m for a 100’’ projection. (And 3m for 120’’). And bonus is the low noise.
I am not aware of that border issue. I have checked some youtube videos. They seemed to be fine. Will do bit of research. However, as you suggested I Will wait a bit before purchasing. Thanks
Yes, the review is on the UHD50 but IMO the UHD51 will be slightly different
There are cons on everything however it is not bad for the price.
Cons
- Very poor contrast and black levels
- Light border around the image
- Limited support for 3D
- No automated zoom, focus or lens shift
- Noisy operationhttps://hdgear.highdefdigest.com/57514/optomauhd50.html
@Ken McPherson
"If you hang the UHD51a from your existing w1070 ceiling mount, the image will be several inches smaller than w1070. I will have to move my mount back about 3-4 inches to get it to fill my existing 110" inch screen. No other ceiling mount adjustments were necessary to get perfect alignment. I did use the UHD51a vertical shift to get it to fit the screen. Sometimes the light border bothers me, mostly, I forget about it. But I will install a velvet covered border to eliminate the issue."

Thats some awesome details. Appreciate it. Glad I posted this here.
I purchased the Optoma Gt1080Darbee for around $600 (when on sale) and has been great for watching movies/sport on a wall and screen from 2m and closer.
Damn, $600? Thats like $1500 retail price? Where did you buy? Anyway, any plans on upgrading to a 4K? Please Let me know if you find any good deals on 4K.
