QLD Safety Certificate and registration

Hello,

I've put a deposit down on a used car from a private sale, that currently has personalised plates and a current safety certificate.
The owner wants to keep their personalised plates, of course, and now has to get a set of standard issue plates. How does this affect the safety certificate when I transfer the registration over, as the rego on the safety certificate will be different from what the vehicle will have at that time?

Are the safety certificates linked to the VIN of the vehicle and all will be alright? Will the car need to be re-certified?

Cheers.

  • Before inspecting a vehicle for an inspection certificate, an approved examiner must be satisfied about the identity of the vehicle. For vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1989, the chassis number and engine number are required to confirm the identity of the vehicle. For vehicles manufactured after this date, the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and engine number are used for identification purposes.
