Telstra Landline Voice Message before Call Connects

So I'm not even sure if anyone still has landline phones but here goes nothing…

I was calling out from parents landline phone over the weekend and the first thing I heard wasn't the ringing tone but a recorded message from Telstra asking me to contact them in relation to the Telstra account. It is then after the message that the ringing tone starts.

Has this happened to anyone? Anyone know why? It's not because we haven't paid our bill.

    Yes, that message is there because they want you to call them.

      Instructions weren't clear enough. Phone is stuck in the ceiling fan now.

    What did Telstra say when you called them? To be honest this is a bit of a crap post.

  • Telstra have been doing this during the transition to NBN - IMHO preying on those less knowledgeable about their options and re-contracting them to the NBN.
