[SOLVED] Qantas Domestic Seat Selection

Hi all,

I checked into a QF domestic flight yesterday 1 minute after check-in opened 24 hrs prior to the flight.
When i clicked seat selection, because I was given a middle row seat, there were no seat selections available other than my 1 seat.

*EDIT I did mobile checkin. Online, there were about 10 seats to pick from. Mobile there was 1.

Has this happened to other people? Or is this due to my pleb bronze status?

  • Never happened to me, though i do notice due to the UI, I don't realise I can move up and down the the plane (usually the only ones free at that time are the last row or 2 at the back). But I've always been able to choose a seat in Qantas, but have to pay for the leg room wing seats (bronze as well). Also probably real possibility that your flight is full.

      Even if it was full, seat selection only opens after checkin opens? I checked in as soon as it opened.

        I think its always open, I have 3 flights booked (one for December) and I've already chosen all my seats for them (window seats about 2/3rds up). I have a feeling this may be another UI issue though, as I've definitely missed the area that asks you pick seats sometimes and I end up having to go back into my booking to choose them.

        Nope. You can select your seat anytime unless it's one of the smaller Qantaslink flights (propjet plane) where you only have window or aisle seat preferences.

    • Maybe it's your browser or try on a PC if you are using your phone?

      • Just tried from a laptop. Definitely seats everywhere available, but now even if i select one and confirm it, my booking doesn't update and i'm stuck with the shitty middle row. How good is qantas.

  • How long is your domestic flight that this is an issue?

    If the flight is not heavily booked, you may be able to move after take-off.

    • I'm not too bothered by the flight time and if i was actually full, then to sit in the middle.
      My issue is more they're restricting my ability to pick a seat in the first place. My phone app is letting me pick between 19 E and 30E, while the web browser has 30 seats to pick from. And even though i go through the buttons to select a seat, I now cant change it on a web browser.

  • There is a fair bit of logic around seat selections. Your best bet is to not check in until near departure. Instead, go to manage your booking, pick the best seat you can and press save. Periodically check back within 24/8/4/2 hours of flight departing and often new seats are opened.

    If you can be bothered queueing the staff can usually change it, but if you're doing carry on then it's too much time + effort IMO.

      Have you tried calling QF lately? At any given time its a 50 min wait

      • You can also post on their Facebook page, message them on Facebook or Tweet at them.

        Not my fault you've chosen to fly a low cost airline. Should have booked with Virgin if you didn't want to wait two hours on hold.

    You picked your seat too late, book earlier and there is a greater selection of seats. Don't wait till check-in and expect a great selection.

  • You can choose your seat as soon as you book a ticket. Leaving it until 24HRs before? Nah mate.
