How to Get a Golden Mobile Number ?

Hi all,

As above, I am looking for a new mobile number for personal use, which is perhaps easy to remember and spell out. I know many people sell them on eBay etc, but I was thinking if there is a mobile company allowing me to check available numbers online without costing a fortune.

TIA.

Amaysim - https://www.amaysim.com.au/my-account/online/unlimited-xsmal… - buy and port after activating

  • Go to Asian areas, they always have signs outside that say they'll give gold numbers for free when you sign up

  • If you go with Vodafone they allow you to check and choose numbers within their available numbers. I managed to choose mine so that it's easy for me to remember (e.g. 04xx NAM EEE)

    • Nam Eee? That's a funny name.

      • Nothing wrong with a funny name.

  • Damm, which mean I got a gold or what ever number without even paying or looking for it. 04XX0ZYYCC

Does anyone even care about typed out numbers these days? When is the last time you looked at the letters when punching in a phone number?!

    • It shows our age that we know what number is what letter haha. It's more just convenient for memory more than anything.

I know but only if it spells something meaningful, but these days your mobile is on business cards etc.

Having a mobile as 044MOWLAWNS for example just seems a bit dumb :/ can actually come across as unprofessional

Yes indeed. That's why when I give out my number I still give it out in digits only. The memory aid is for myself not anyone else!

When I signed up to a Telstra plan a few years ago I got 043x xxx xyx. They allowed me to choose 3 or 4 numbers and the number I got was listed. Pretty sure there was supposed to be a charge associated with my number though but it wasn't quarantined properly (I quickly found out it belonged to someone who went to prison not long before I got it).
I have also used amaysim to get a good number. You can enter the sequence you want and if you keep refreshing it comes up with more options. I obtained 043x yxy zzz using amaysim a few years ago.

Older Telstra sims in Coles, Woolworths, JB, etc. have the service number printed on the back of the packaging. Trawl through a bunch of them and you may find something.

  • My number is my first name followed by initial 0430 ##### # got it from Telstra in my teens now 30. The guy hated me took awhile going through all the random one.

Pros, good while young for nights out, and no one can forget it.

Cons too many people know it now and clients which ends up in many blocked numbers.

This doesn't help your query howeber.

I don't think 'gold numbers' are special at all anymore (and I have one 0438 AAA BBB - two triples). People don't even look at numbers when they dial you nowadays. Look up person's name and call, or say… "call John'… and it does just that.

I don't even know the numbers of any family members I call regularly, as once they are in my phone, I never look at the number again and if I change phones the 'phone book' automatically transfers to the new device.

The days of manually dialling a number are rare.

The only time I have to read out my number is when I give it to a business, and after all these years, it's become very annoying to hear…"oh that's an easy to remember number", this is insanely annoying after 15 years.

    • after stumbling upon this topic i only just realised this was a thing
after some research your number is worth up to $3000 :o
      think about selling it hahah
