Any One Own an ALDI Drill Press?

Hey lads i am just wondering if any one can give me feedback on the Aldi drill press? My local store still has a few in stock is it worth the $99? I am not expecting much it will only be used casually.
Nothing to serious i was looking at a Hafco drill press but i am worried about moisture in the shed parts of my bench grinder/sander have gone rusty from condensation plus the fact i don't clean up metal shaving.
So for now i figure a cheapie will do. I did look on scumtree but peoples prices are ridiculous id love to restore an Aussie made drill press.

I guess it can't be any worse then the Ozito? I like the Aldi model better bigger motor and bigger chuck 16mm vs 13mm.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

  • Not sure this helps but i got the Aldi work boots for $30 recently - pretty comfy, not bad, not great….you probably can't go wrong if it's for small usage and the price is half of bunnings……good luck!

  • I bought one the other day - but have to wait until father's day to open it :) LoL

The kids got it for me supposedly, along with shoes from that runningwarehouse deal.

The forum article I read said the drill press is ok for the money / home use - whether or not it can be perfectly aligned and provide mm accuracy is another thing. https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/how-to-align-your-drill-pres…

The bigger 16mm (5/8 inch) chuck on the aldi drill will come in handy. I'm not planning on installing the safety box piece.

I'm sure you could probably get better built industrial use presses on gumtree for similar price that are 30+ years old - and they will probably throw in a heap of old drill bits.

This Aldi one has the (dis)advantage of being quite light and portable.

  • i am worried about moisture in the shed parts of my bench grinder/sander have gone rusty from condensation plus the fact i don't clean up metal shaving.

Spray it down with (WD40?) or another lubricant after use so that there's a layer of something over the metal when you're not using it. Can stop / slow rust from condensation.

  • So I assembled the Work Zone drill press today. I'm pretty damn happy with it for $99

I dind't realize it came with the laser which was a nice touch.

Initially I didn't install the press with the safety guard and essentially tapped the chuck straight on.

Only after moving down a few instructions did I realize the safety guard top bracket also is required for setting the drill depth gauge.

So I ended up knocking the chuck back off and re installing the safety guard, but using only the top bracket bit. The actual safety spring bit I took off.

After setting everything all up with a level, it seems to be a pretty good unit for the money. Nice and quiet too.

  • Thanks for the feedback lads i am waiting to see if they reduce the price my local Aldi had 5 left still.
