A 13" (8GB RAM, 256GB storage) price matched at Officeworks is $2308. If you buy from Apple and upgrade to 16GB RAM, and get edu discount, it's $2839. Is the extra 8GB worth $531?
In the long run, yes. Also considering that the RAM is soldered on these days, it won't be easy to add on in the future.
No it's not worth that much, but you should do it if your want to hold onto it for a long time, and planning to do design/develop/editing etc on it
I'd say for a MacBook spend as much as your money can let you. Don't cheap out on a device you plan to keep for over five years. I actually recommend spending money on applecare or whatever it's called because I heard things as simple as battery replacements can cost hundreds of dollars.
