  • They better be free range eggs.

Cheap Quilton is good, this price is what you generally pay when it's on a good sale.

      Confidence 2 ply 16 Pack $4.99
Confidence Swipe Paper Towels (1 ply) 4 Pack: $2.99

      you're comparing 2-ply/1-ply to 3-ply/2-ply?

confidence toilet paper kicks the ass of any other i’ve tried.

      have you tried quilton?

      • +1

IMHO, Quilton > Wollies Premium >>>>>>>> Cottonelle

Haven't tried Aldi as I am Quilton happy.

        • +1

tonestar, yes I was comparing different ply versions but Confidence is all I need; isn't buying 3-ply rather like paying for a car with 280 on the speedo when you are not allowed to go over 110?

Yes,I think I've had the pleasure of trying Quilton and wouldnt knock it (I'm not anti-Quiltonic) - good price for it I'm sure, certainly tried the Kleenex version and the one with the dog on the wrapper.

I used to be a "3-ply person", but that was before I became a (Oz)bargain hunter and saw the error of my ways.

But next time I use Confidence I might be thinking of the kick in the ass ;)

Perhaps this subject deserves a forum of its own ;)

sparkles: I believe in "live and let live" :)

        • Confidence over Quilton!

Quilton might have an additional ply but the quality and density is way down on the ALDI stuff, it breaks / rips easily = Captain dangle berry ;)

        • tonestar, yes I was comparing different ply versions but Confidence is all I need; isn’t buying 3-ply rather like paying for a car with 280 on the speedo when you are not allowed to go over 110?

          Perfectly put.

        • +2

          yours

IMHO, Quilton > Wollies Premium >>>>>>>> Cottonelle

          mines

hands >>> Quilton > Wollies Premium >>>>>>>> Cottonelle

it's just because toilet paper doesn't give the tickly feeling

          :P

        • tonestar, yes I was comparing different ply versions but Confidence is all I need; isn’t buying 3-ply rather like paying for a car with 280 on the speedo when you are not allowed to go over 110?
          Perfectly put.

i prefer mercedes over mitsubishi as you never know when you might need the extra speed and safety :)

        • Yep, but Hyundai for safety … at a fraction of the price :)

In my mispent youth, I safely turned up the speed on my SL280 & 735i …

Knowing better now, with my Aldi savings it could be a Hyundai I20 (from AUD$14,990 RRP), secondhand of course - one of the world's safest cars, no speeding fines and more enviro-friendly ;)

          http://www.caradvice.com.au/74318/hyundai-i20-review/

        • Excuse me Miss, is there any reason why were you going 280 on the paper? I'd have to give you a ticket for that. No wonder it ripped. ;)

  • and olive oil is now 4l @ $20

    • yes but is la espanola good?

choice scored it 8.5/20 so it seems not if you trust them

      • +1

Aldi have Remano 4L pure olive oil for $16.99.

and a little google bird just told me "ALDI’s Olive Tree Australian Extra Virgin Olive Oil has been awarded 2011 Product of the Year" … and "ALDI is the only supermarket to have signed the Australian Olive Oil Association’s industry Code of Practice" (which applies to imported & Australian olive oil).

        :)

        • ALDI’s Olive Tree Australian Extra Virgin Olive Oil has been awarded 2011 Product of the Year

in a consumer survey of product innovation

what was the judging criteria? :)

ALDI is the only supermarket to have signed the Australian Olive Oil Association’s industry Code of Practice

what about the non-supermarket-brand oils? :)

        • I was getting carried away :)

        • the previous aldi stuff didn't do too well in the choice extra virgin olive oil review. maybe they just renamed the stuff and called it new and improved :)

  • Coles butter 200g or something $1.40 or thereabouts (I'm not sure about the weight but it's just a standard brick of butter).

  • -1

    Coles blood pressure tablets?

    • Done, savings brand aspirin! ;)

    • -1

I guess the person who negged me missed the joke about how they could use the motto 'Down and staying down'…

  • +3

coles viagra tablets wouldn't sell terribly well would they? down and staying down!

    • Well it depends on who is down and staying down

  • -1

I'm still trying to recover from toilet paper that "KICKS THE ASS" - nasty stuff!

  • +3

I can't stand the curly haired chick they have on the new Ad.

"They're Down and Staying Down" x 100 too much enthusiasm.

I don't want to Coles just in case she serves me.

    • LOL! I know exactly which enthusiastic chick you're talking about cos I thought the same.

    • +2

i can't stand that unshaven chef that always appears in their catalogues.

      • Curtis?

      • Ugh don't get me started on him.

      • Ugh don't get me started on him.

  • +2

Umm…anyone ever notice on the ad that it looks like the 'giant hand' is stroking tits? Plus the young guy who is pointing it 'down' enthusiastically, black hair I believe on the milk ad. Looks like he's pointing to his crotch?

  • In fairness to Coles. Many of the stores now put eggs in the refrigerated section. Which is where they should be. That way they stay fresher. Aldi dont doesn't do this

    • and iirc neither does woolworths

  • +2

Talking about storing eggs, I asked a girl at the supermarket what the perfect temperature was to store an egg, she told me 'about 37c'.

    • well isnt that how a chicken stores them??

      • +1

        that's fertilized eggs

    • Reminds when I was in a large Coles, in a hurry, recently, asked if they sold buttermilk (which I needed for a recipe for the next meal), the guy said with the utmost confidence "No, we don't sell it". Made my own from butter & vinegar (I think).

Next time I went in, there it was, next to the milk. :)

      • pretty sure you made it with milk and vinegar, not butter and vinegar ;)

    • people get there Fs & Cs mixed up.

      • +1

Really? I haven't seen or heard a single place in Australia that uses Fahrenheit Degrees.

    • I think I should just give up on making dirty jokes!

      • +2

        o, i get it now

i though you/she was on about chicken eggs because of the talk of storing eggs

      • +4

Mate, out of all the people I've met you have the most missed jokes ever. Whether that's because your jokes are unfunny or people don't get you, I'll have to leave that one for you to figure out.

        • Definately the latter

        • -1

          As posted earlier

Talking about storing eggs, I asked a girl at the supermarket what the perfect temperature was to store an egg, she told me ‘about 37c’.

My first thought was: rotten eggs.

Hence I think it is the latter, we don't get it.

        • +1

          Xanthorrhoea semiplana

37c degrees (temp of a human body)
Eggs…you should be able to work this one out!

        • How could anyone not get it!? haha.

Bender, you crack me up. :P

  • the 'down and staying down' slogan is better than woolworth's copy-cat-catch-up 'price knockdown and staying down', but when the focus on price diminishes, 'the fresh food people' will be hard to beat - as they both know, the real grocery battle is about fresh quality produce and not cheap packaged foods

  • Now for a war over chickens, flags Coles
