What Is The Largest Download Quota Available for Mobile Broadband?

Hey guys I can't get home broadband internet, the house I rent in has to have this company Opticom connect any kind of internet and their fee is $500. The home owner is a (profanity) who won't pay the fee so I'm (profanity). I could take it to VCAT but I'm only here for a few months then I'm moving out.

So I need a mobile broadband plan that's stacked with available downloads, any ideas?

  • I mean Vivid Wireless you can get unlimited (not sure if theres something specific with the TOS) but I download quite a lot due to PS4 games without issue, have to make sure you definitely get coverage though and speeds are capped at 12mbps I think (I get like 8mbps to 10mbps). Also Optus I think has a 100gb+100gb plan you can tether I think? Not sure if speeds are same as Vivid or not though I had hoped it would be full 3g speed?

Why should your landlord pay when it's only you who wants internet? Why don't you pay?

I'm not paying $500 to connect the internet when I'm moving out in a few months. Free to air tv also wasn't connected when the place was built which would also be connected if Opticom did come out.

Maybe the landlord is not paying $500 so you can connect to the internet because you are moving out in a few months.

This is complete horses**t from the LL. Ultimately, they get to benefit from the connection.

Opticomm provide TV, phone and internet - there are no alternatives, except wireless.

This is a one-off connection fee for the property to be connected to the Opticomm network. Ongoing the OP would need to sign up to a RSP and get a plan. The LL is not paying for the plan but the provisioning of (presumably) cables to the property from the street.

What does your lease say about telecommunications?

I am in an Opticomm estate and considered wireless.. However, mobile reception is so poor I'm glad I did not take it up.

Chances are, you wont get tv reception with an internal antenna either. My radio does not work, DAB, FM and AM fail to pick up a signal.

Sure, if they wanted the benefit, they should pay. But they don't - it's OP who wants the benefit.

        • @HighAndDry:
It's a basic (essential?) service that should have been connected when the property was built. Any agent worth their salt would be pushing the owner to get it installed as a basic ammenity that increases the value of the property and the desirability for future tenants. Landlord will probably end up losing out in the long run for being such a penny pinching twat.

Obviously not since OP can get mobile internet.

that increases the value of the property and the desirability for future tenants.

Sure, so it would be good for the landlord. There's a lot of things that would be good for me that I don't do either, and I sure as hell don't have an obligation to.

Landlord will probably end up losing out in the long run

That's on the landlord, not sure how this translates to OP being owed anything.

      • What do you mean "Free to air tv also wasn't connected"?

Don't you just need an antenna?

        • Tv comes through fibre on Opticomm estates. Most body corps have a no external antenna rule.

You could use an indoor antenna, however, signal may be poor

      • That's pretty poor form from the Landlord. From the sounds of it, it must be a reasonably new house. Why the landlord wouldn't invest in a telecommunications connection for their investment property is beyond me. That $500 charge allows the LL to advertise the property as Fibre Internet-connected - surely a significant value add.

Why should you as the tenant invest in a service that subsequent occupiers will benefit from?

Personally I'd expect the landlord to split the cost 50/50.

Jeenee mobile (Optus 4G) have 100GB a month for $65 no contract.

    https://www.jeenee.org.au/products/data-sims-2/

Southern Phone have a 140GB per month for $77 with a 12 month contract.

  • Thanks apptrack, that's exactly the kind of plan I'm after mate. Legend.

  • Largest download quota for mobile broadband is unlimited.

Wow that landlord sucks. Sounds like you live in an Opticomm estate which means you don't have access to other fibre providers like NBN Co. The thing with Opticomm is, all your TV signals come through the fibre so you won't even have free to air TV.

    That landlord really sucks.

I went with the Jeenee plan, I'll just have to keep torrenting down to a minimum. Telstra's mobile unlimited is $200 a month, there's no way I could afford that. I didn't want a 12 month contracted plan otherwise when I move in a few months where I'm moving too has nbn available.

  • Torrenting seems to have died, try FOPNU! Telstra is the Biggest, Yet they are always the DEAREST! When you get settled in a new place, have a look at EXETEL for Unlimited.
