Google Home Max $499 Delivered @ Kogan (HK)

70

Been looking into google home max for awhile.

Today most of the international stores dropped their prices to $499 AUD much cheaper than before well over 600. With local stores like Harvey norman and JB going at 549.

Worth a look if your in the market for a Google home Max. Possibly see if Officeworks or Good Guys can price beat or match.

Good Guys is obviously cheaper than OP deal. not sure why my neg vote was invalid!? "Cheaper price elsewhere"

  • If I tell it to play the drum solo in In The Air tonight, will it be able to do that?

    • Hope so does siri or alexa do any solos?

I just tested for you, using your exact phrasing. It plays the whole song, not just the drum solo.

How many Google mini's in a max?

  • I'm already using a mini and it's plenty loud for a medium-large sized house. I can't imagine what a Max can do!

    • I'm already using a mini and it's plenty loud for a medium-large sized house room

      FTFY.

    • Loudness does not equate to sound quality. The Max is designed to be used as a speaker for music as well.

    Google Max? WTF?

  • I received a google mini for birthday recently but I use Iphone… what really is the purpose of the google mini? just home speakers you can talk to like a siri or cordana?

    • Ive got a Home in the lounge and in the bedroom and a mini that I run from a powerbank which makes it totally portable. In the summer we could have music running all over the house and also outside while we sat drinking beer in the paddling pool :) , as long as you are within your wifi range it means you can voice control while outside cooking bbq or whatever.

    • You can talk to it. I have a mini in my bedroom to turn all the lights off, play music and as an alarm/reminder

    • I have ever an Alexa(echo dot 2nd gen white) but really want a home mini. Interested in a swap?

Using iPhone is no hinderance - the Home Mini can use a variety of services for music etc. I find it useful for voice-activated cooking timers, reminders and music while in the kitchen. It's also handy for controlling lights in my house.

    • I use an iphone as well, but with IFTTT you can overcome certain limitations.

"Hey Google, add … to my shopping list" - adds that item to a list under my iOS reminders called 'shopping list'
"Hey Google, play … on the TV" - plays whatever it is on my Chromecast enabled TV
"Hey Google, play … on my bedroom speaker" - plays whatever song from my Google Music Library (or Spotify) on the Chromecast audio in my bedroom.
"Hey Google, set a timer for…." - sets a timer hands free while I'm cooking (was sick of getting my iphone all gross every time I cooked)
"Hey Google, what is 5.73 Cups in mL?" - hands free calculations while I'm cooking.

Really, for the price I paid ($30 or so) it is a very useful device.

I also have a raspberry pi with airconnect installed, which makes all cast devices appear as airplay receivers, so I can airplay to the various Chromecast speakers I now have. Though I wish I could do the reverse, and have the Google Home cast to an airplay device, but Google have locked it down pretty tight, so there doesn't seem any way of doing so.

Google Home MAX is just a much better speaker, so you could use it for music as well (the mini does not have great sound quality).

  • I bought one of these last week. I've found an issue that when you increase the volume past 75%, the bass disappears completely. It sounds hollow. I'm going back and forth with google about troubleshooting it. Even with the Bass setting at full, it sounds exactly the same past this 75% point. But just be mindful of this. The stores don't seem to let you place the volume higher than 50% and only play a selected amount of songs, which Google was surprised at (I thought they would know how their product is marketed). Just an FYI anyway.
