Off to Hawaii in a few weeks and wanting to take about $500 USD with me for bus fares, some food and tipping. Can anyone recommend where to exchange the AUD to get the best deal?

I heard about KVB too but I think they have a minimum amount. Cannot remember what it is. I have been told Crown Casino is also pretty good because they do market rate exchange. That's probably just converting from other to Aussie moolah though. There's always a huge line outside that cash exchange at QV. Rates must be good if people are lining up down the hall?

No one uses cash in the US. Just use a Citibank card.
Yeah. Although not ideal, my emergency money in the case I lose my cards is good ol' AUD. Though I would technically have to have the money to get to an exchange but my ideal scenario sees me get there on the back of human kindness, so it's not foolproof.
If you're the type of person to buy stuff from Hawaii craft markets but still tight then I would instead recommend ING since few Hawaiian ATMs are free, Citibank isn't everywhere and some ATM fees can get very, very expensive.
If a traveller is the type of person that only works cash-in-hand and is trying to stay under the radar by using cash only then…that's none of my business.
Sure I’d take maybe $100 USD in cash max and carry around my Citi/ING card leaving my normal commbank card behind in my hotel safe.
If I were to loose my wallet I’d still have a method of paying for stuff. I’d rather get charged a bit extra in fees than stress about not being able to eat for several days.
