Warranty issues with phone from HK

Guys,

I'm currently having some issues with Eglobal. I purchased a new Motorola G5S however it won't discover or connect to the home wifi network.

I've returned the phone and provided video proving that other devices at home can connect, whilst the G5S cannot discover any network.

They are saying that the technician has checked the phone and found no issues.

Not sure what my next steps should be. I've asked them to re-check, I've sent the video file again, and I've threatened them with a complaint to HK consumer council.

Any suggestions as to what I should do now!? Phone was purchased via pay pal, approx 4 months ago…

Just curious… did you try connecting to another wifi network with it?

    • also did factory reset?

    • Maybe phone wifi set to US channels and router set to EU channels, and it just happened to be on one of the ones that don't overlap?

      • Are you sure there are US/EU Wifi channels ?

Pretty sure that’s only cellular bands.

        • See here:
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels#Interfer…

          For channels 12, 13 & 14.
In Canada, for example, you can't use 12-14. So if one device is set to Rest of World, and one to North America there can be issues.
But it would be really unusual for this to happen unless you had set your router to only use 12, 13, 14, for example, as the WLAN protocol switches between channels.

  • What standard is your home wifi network? The G5S only supports:

    Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n

(Could be different if it's an international/HK model?) This should be everything, unless your router is only transmitting on the newer AC standard.

  • thanks guys.

I did manage to successfully connect to my mobile hotspot, and downloaded a firmware patch… however the download speed was less than 1kb per sec, and kept dropping out. Several hours later it completed.

I reconnected via hotspot and tried to browse the web, however I had no internet access (or, extremely slow access as per the firmware download).

Tried another factory reset, but my home network (and those of my neighbours) were still not visible during the set up process.

Also tried rebooting my router (billion 7800n, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n) along with selecting various multiple wifi channels… but no joy!
