How can we pay in AUD for an overseas item? Will PayPal convert it? Will there be a conversion fee?

  • +3

Btw for those who are making a new US account, you can use a US address but you can enter an Aussie number for verification.

  • yeah it's working thx

    • Not working for me. Are you using a VPN?

      • All good, created a new account and it worked fine :)

  • deleted. found work around the issue

    • Will you share it with the rest of us?

      • +6

        Yes.
Finally managed to buy what I wanted.
        1. Registered new US account. Hotel address and entering your AU phone # is fine.
        2. Entered AU address as the shipping address.
        3. In another browser found the product I wanted on AU eBay, removed "au", copied this link.
        4. Pasted the link in US eBay.
        5. Added to the Shopping cart.
        6. Entered the discount code and it worked.
        7. Paid via PayPal in A$.
        8. Received receipt and confirmation to my email.
        Success!

Hi I am getting this message on my newly created us account.

To ensure that eBay remains a safe marketplace, we limit the quantity of items that can be bought or sold by a single account at one time. These limits may change over time and are determined by your previous site activity and overall performance.

Currently, your account has reached the limit for bidding and buying, but you can increase this limit by providing additional verification. Thank you for your understanding.

          anybody getting the same?

How to 4. Pasted the link in US eBay. mate

        • @Sonca:

          did that mate but thanks.

        • Hey guys, so basically you still buy item on AU Ebay but just simply got 15% off on AU ebay?

        • @Sonca:

create a new ebay (US) account, copy the url minues the .au from the aus site into the browser your using for the us ebay then add to cart.

I get as far as adding the discount and its reflected in cart, my paypal is linked but getting the above error.

        • @wsb: Thanks mate, but here is my situation

I'd like to buy a Gimbal. I found one in AU Ebay for 197AUD , i delete .au and copy the whole link to the browser where i'm using US Ebay, I succeeded adding that item in cart and apply 15% off. But it's 15% off 197AUD.

Actually, when I created new US Ebay, i found the same gimbal only 105USD…

My question is that, can I buy the gimbal USD105 plus 15% off that price and ship it to Australia OR NOT

IF NOT, it's basically, simply that we get 15% of AU Ebay site……not the US site price tag

        • @Sonca:

its a different listing so yes, if the seller of the USD105 item will ship to aus.

        • -2

@wsb: I see that, I dont even need to go through AU ebay and copy paste anything mate. I simply browse US site, add what I like to cart and check out.

Another problem come is that they collect GST which make it only 5% of on US price tag… and if we pay in AU credit card, there is conversion rate which make it…. almost the same price (no discount)….. SO FINALLY, we enjoy the item it the US price, sure thing is that it's still cheaper than buying the same thing in AU Ebay….my stuff I paid finally 100USD which is around 140 AUD compare to 197AUD if buying on AU ebay

    • What was the workaround?

    • Shared the work around above

      • +1

Do you just login with your normal PayPal account that you use for EBay Australia? Or do you need to add the new email address that you used for EBay US to your PayPal Australia account?

Don’t want to mess up my PayPal account or my AU EBay account.

  • Doesn't work when changing au to us account so created another account. Took the trouble to get a us number but turns out you can just use your aussie number to register anyway. After adding to cart saw the below message:

This item does not ship to FL, United States. Here is what you can do:

    Change address
Pick a different item that ships to you

I went to my addresses under settings and added my aussie address. Goes to check out and it worked.

All the trouble to save 33 bucks.

    Worth it.

    • This is what you need to do:
In another browser find the product I wanted on AU eBay, remove "au", copy this link.
Paste the link in US eBay.

      • Nah that wasn't my issue, I didn't add in my local address hence it wouldn't allow me to purchase. All good 👍

  • Worked for me. US$56 saved. Interestingly, eBay still charges GST so obviously knows the item is going to a buyer in Australia from the USA, but allows the discount.

    • So only 5% discount?

      • +1

No,15%. From 1 July 2018 you can't avoid paying GST on items shipped from the USA to an Australian address.

        • +1

          He means 15%-GST(10%) = 5%.

  • I just posted a separate deal for ASUS ZenFone Max Pro (ZB602KL) 6" 6GB / 64GB. Can be had for just $334.90 from Qd_au.
The seller conformed that this particular model does have NFC, unlike their 4GB variant.

  • code does not apply eventhough I changed my address to US :(

    • create a new account did the trick

Bloody hell I love this website. I was eyeing off a pair of headphones for weeks waiting for a code! Lost my last pair on a bus

    Thanks OP

    anybody getting the same?

I thought maybe because i checked out with amex in paypal so tried again with my visa however I have have two items in orders with payment pending, however no action on my accounts or paypal.

I should state I followed the guide above ie)

created new ebay us acc with us adress and aus shipping address then code works at checkout but when i hit confirm and pay it gives the error.

    • Did you add your aussie phone number for verification? No VPN?

      • added aus mobile but didnt get anything verify

    • +1

I had the same problem mate. Try click around the account settings to get it to send you a verification txt. After doing that it still wouldn't work for me till i added my credit card as default payment option in account settings. Let me pay after i did those things.

      • @yub default credit card in paypal account settings?

        • +1

No i think it is in account options but not under the paypal options

        • @Yub:
oh I think i found it, you mean in the seller section?

wont let me add unfortunately, have verified the account now also

        • +1

          @wsb:
Yeah, under my account, personal information, financial information, automatic payment method. I had to add my credit card there before it let me pay for my item.

        • @Yub: :) thanks @yub

        • @wsb: Did that work for you? I get a message about having to create a seller's account before I can add an automatic payment method :(

          EDIT

Finally got it to let me add a credit card and that solved the problem. Not sure how I managed it though… Don't have a PayPal account linked to my US eBay account btw (I tried linking one previously and it wasn't letting me purchase)

  • Thanks OP. Created 2 new US accounts, only took 2 mins each! Good savings, happy days.

    • i did that for the last UK sitewide deal. the newest account of the two got banned within a couple of hours, "bids cancelled" (for B.I.N. listing?) and one of the sellers i bought from cancelled the transaction while the other sent the item anyway.

Hi, I'm new here with this type of changes, can I have a stupid question?

    • Basically we just buy iten from AU ebay and pay in AUD, simply we get 15% that item? is it right?

    • I really though that we can buy item on US ebay with their price tag…? Am I wrong somewhere?

    • No you find the link on ebay.com.au, remove the au so it becomes ebay.com so you can use the code to get 15% off.

      • -1

yeah, if I do so, it's that same item in AUD and i got 15 % off that price …

BUT if i browse US site, I find same item at only 100USD

        • Still 15% off the AUD price as it is the same item, just ebay.com instead of ebay.com.au

  • My ebay account is 18 years old (opened in the USA) and the account address change workaround did not work for me this time. Though it did previously.

Any a new account did the trick.

  • -3

So here is my situation guys:

    • Create new account on US Ebay (AU phone number and US hotel addresse) during the set up process I dont have to go through any kind of verifycation at all. So 2minute to create account

    • Browse US Ebay and pick the Zhiyun Smooth 4 Gimbal. Price USD 109

    • Add to cart, check out (still free delivery)
    • Here change shipping address to AU: it will charge GST to import product to AU
    • Apply -15% code
    • Final price: 109 -16.35 (15% off) + 10.90 (GST) = USD103.55

When I paid on Paypal (AU account), immediately I got the following notification, that I dont understand why???

    • Shenzhenche (via Paypal): AUD 131.11
    • Ebay AU GST (via Paypal): AUD 15.42
      TOTAL in AUD AUD 146.53
(If I know that much I have to pay in AUD before clicking on pay via paypal, I would not buy)

Note: The cheapest item I see on AU ebay is at AUD 197, if I used the method you guys explained here (browse AU ebay, delete .au, copy to US site) and get 15% off …the price will be AUD 167.45

Either way buying directly from US Ebay or AU ebay is not much of a deal (for me).

    • +3

If you buy anything overseas you have to account for the GST added. You saved yourself $20 buying from the US rather than buying locally. Not happy with that?

      • -1

Not really worth with such a complicated process and more than 1 month of waiting ….better buy AU ebay tho

        • +1

how would shipping take longer than buying it via Ebay AU if it's from the same buyer? I think Sonca is missing the plot here.

        • @cray: You dont get me mate. I buy directly from US site and it said that delivery from 14 Sep to 03 Oct I pay the pirce as stated above, if I choose buy from AU with 15% discount it will be in 4 days with Post or so and kind of $20 more expensive

    • check your credit card statement via online banking…all will be revealed

    • jfc….do you even logic, bro?

  • https://imgur.com/a/3z3U2AG Getting this error tried card aswell :/ really wanted that monitor

    EDIT

this is a new account i made

    EDIT EDIT

kept doing it eventually worked ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    350 for a 410 monitor thanks guys :)

    • I get the same error. Did you change anything, or just keep trying to complete the purchase?

      • i just kept doing it, closed browser then did it again, all that happened is my account has several non paid of the same item and one paid of the item but those dissapeared (seems their system fixed it )

        only was charged one time

    • You don't want repeat anything when it comes to PayPal verification to many times or you may find your Paypal account limited or locked. YMMV.

      • account was only verified one time, the error shows even if your paying with card for some reason.

      • The cards on my PayPal account are verified so I don't think that's the issue. Unless there is something I'm missing

  • Anyone seen any RAM deals? After a budget 8GBx2 kit, excuse the off topic

  • I tried placing some items in the cart and when I put the code in, it said it couldn't applied to the order.

  • I missed it by one minute. :(

Was at checkout. It took too long for them to SMS me the verification code. :(

    • +1

      Mourning for you too..

  • already in check out, missed out by 2 minutes :(

Got the UCS Lego Falcon for $1102au, (rrp of 1299). Cheers for the post to the OP, easy decent savings (or big ridiculously unnecessary spending depending on which way you look at it)..

Thanks OP, got a Viewsonic XG2703-GS for 699! Only took about 5 hours of getting that "your eBay account has purchase restrictions blah blah blah". After putting in about 10 orders and giving up, the last one went through at 1.53pm - not too sure why it worked, pretty sure that one went through as an error too…anyway monitor has shipped so no turning back now.

Thanks OP, got a HAIER fridge from Appliances Online saved $132 big onesaaa.
