Of all the things Xiaomi has made…..

I think, apart from being not overly useful, it is a bit deceiving. It sounds like they are saying you can rate "soil fertility" through a measurement of EC (electrical conductivity). Although there is often a positive correlation between the two (soil particle size, ability to retain organic matter content, ability to retain moisture, etc., are often related to one another), it would be a stretch to say that through EC alone you can say how fertile a soil is.

    • Do the anodes need to be cleaned after a while? With my manual moisture meter I have to clean them with steel wool after a few months.

  • I believe it would be measuring ph levels.

Yes, it is. Moisture / light / pH / humidity / temperature / nutrient

It says it monitors it, but the only sensor it has for nutrients is an EC sensor. That's electrical conductivity. That does not equate to nutrients. It takes a laboratory to measure nutrient levels. What they are doing is inferring nutrient levels, which is unreliable, and the relationships between EC and nutrient levels differ depending on environmental circumstances.

      • It’s a lux meter which is not great for all Light source. Also this not a hygrometer. It does not read humidity.

    • That's not what it says. It says EC. And even pH does not equate to fertility. Organic matter will lower your pH, but too low and stuff starts dying.

  • This is an amazing tool when combined with home assistant. I have 8 monitoring multiple plants on the terrace. Some in a greenhouse, others open air. Allows you to quickly ascertain moisture levels and temperature. When the "nutrient" levels drop, adding fertiliser quickly increases the nutrient value. It may not be exact in nutrient details but it does give valuable feedback. There is no pH monitor - that's incorrect - would have been very useful but it doesn't support that reading.

    • Do you have intermittent connectivity issues?

      • +1

Not really. It was a problem with earlier releases but not lately. But there have been so many updates in the last few months/weeks that I haven't had hassio running for more than a week (or more often a few days) without a reboot!

        • I might try to update. Right now I can’t even connect to one. It lasted a week. I like the concept and in theory it’s great. I like the report feature. Missing something as basic as a hygrometer reduces its function.

      • Do you use the Android app? That might be the case because once I switch to ios and it connect every time.

    • There's a house down the street that I'm sure has a heap of these. They've converted all the bedrooms so that they can grow hydroponic tomatoes.

    • do you need a home assistant or can you view them all in the xiaomi app?

  • How long does the battery last?

    • The manufacturer said that it can last for one year.

  • Is this ok in the rain? Didn't see any IP rating in description?
    Edit: saw IP5 rating…

    • I spray the garden all over it last week and it hasn't died yet

  • Will this show the lead content in the soil? I want to grow veggies in my backyard but afraid lead content may be more. Will this device help?

  • Can it connect to a mihome gateway zigbee device or mihome blue tooth device? Or just direct to your phone app over blue tooth?
