Should I Go to Vanuatu, New Caledonia or Fiji?

Should I go to Vanuatu, New Caledonia or Fiji?

We are traveling with friends of which one of them would be roughly 5 months pregnant and we also have a 3 year old with us.

Could you suggest which one would the best bet to travel in Jan 2019 for around 7 days with respect to place, pocket, food and comfort?

Thanks for the suggestions!

Have you considered a cruise? You can do some or all of them in a week. I did all 3 last year.

Not a bad idea but I wonder at the wisdom of taking a 5 months pregnant woman (who might already be feeling sick in the mornings) on a long sea voyage…

      • That's a good point. If it was me personally I wouldn't even take someone 5 months pregnant on a flight.

        • Flights land after a couple of hours.
A cruise lasts a few days (feels like a lifetime).

        • @GG57: I checked for the 26jan and the feb cruise the 0-3 years age group is booked out :'(

  • Purely because of the 3y.o., I would recommend Fiji or Vanuatu ahead of New Cal.

In Fiji / Vanuatu, almost all resorts have dedicated staff to run kids-clubs etc., and they genuinely love children.

January will be hot and humid though, so may be a little uncomfortable for the pregnant one.
In Fiji, I think the Coral Coast resorts may get more 'weather' during that month, in comparison to Denarau Island, but it depends what you want to do.

Vanuatu is smaller than Fiji but has plenty to keep you busy for a week.

    Enjoy.

    • Think 3 years old would be too young for the kids Clubs

      • It will vary resort to resort, but some certainly cater for 3 y.o.

        • Not just the kid's club… a friend was telling me how some resorts offer private nannies to look after toddlers or even infants. Sounds like her kids had a blast. This was in Fiji.

    • why not new cal?

I've been to Fiji, so can only comment on that. It's a very beautiful place only if you get outside the resorts. Don't go there and just stay within the walls of your hotel.

They'll warn you about the dangerous foods, but the people were so lovely and their cooking delicious.

    I had a great experience.

I stayed at the Outrigger which was really expensive and not that great. Was there in off-peak season so the weather wasn't great.

    • Thanks!

    • I've been looking at either the Shangri-La or the Outrigger. What wasn't great about the Outrigger?

      • Had one staff member that was overtly creepy and kept coming onto me.

This was 10 years ago. Grounds and facilities weren't stellar for the price. Shangri-La looked a lot nicer.

    just go to bali

    • Bali was our worst trip out of many destinations. Would never go back to Bali even it was free.

      • Mate, need to go back, even if its just to pay respects at the sari club.
its the best overseas destination for aussies.

  • Start with doing a bit of research here:

I'd recommend your 5 month pregnant friend stay home.

Travelling to an international country while pregnant (pre-existing condition for travel insurance) is really not wise.

Garbage. You have no clue what you're talking about.

At five months pregnant, travel insurance is not impacted.

Travel Insurance will still cover any complications, obviously they will not cover any precautions or anything that is normal.

      Read your PDS.

Fiji - the way the world should be. I have a friend there who runs small day tours - she is a native and very easy to deal with.

    • Could you share the details. thanks

  • Vanuatu, the duty free is amazing

Why risk zika for the pregnant woman.?

    • I think we should just goto Cairns and Port Douglas in Australia and we should be fine and safer….

      • I can appreciate that staying in Aust might seem the easiest and best option. But also consider that January is the hot/wet season in northern Qld (and other tropical areas).

Perhaps focus on what you want to actually do, rather than just a location, look at where you can do those activities, and then consider the amount of travel, weather, etc.
You might find that somewhere less adventurous (such as New Zealand) might be a good option.

        • my new itinerary is Brisbane to Sydney

hope t weather is ok there

  • 5 months pregnant in Jan, means they literally just got pregnant this month/late July, and they've already told you?

    • hahaha! my best friend!… you got it!
