Fujitsu Aircon 2.5kW $568.00 after $150 Cashback from Fujitsu and $150 from EFTPOS Card @ Harvey Norman

1140

I was looking for a deal to buy an aircon, came across fujitsu 2.5kw reverse cycle air con.

Currently HN giving $150 eftpos card which you can use at any eftpos. I called the good guys but they didnt match it, went to TGG store @hoppers crossing and the guy said he can reduce the price to $750 but can't match HN price (so it comes $600 after fujitsu cashback). The HN@ hoppers crossing didnt have it in stock. I paid the deposit, will get the unit in 3 weeks time, the rep gave me $150 eftpos card straight away which needs to be activated after 7 days of purchase.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2018.

You are the champ! - Any deals on installers as well around the area? Around knox-Vermont?

          @placard:
Here is the receipt mate, I went and bargained at other store.

          Receipt

          Hope this helps

        • @v1nn1e:

Thanks to you both…I bargained a little and managed to bring it down to $800. I was happy enough with that. Could have got further down, but was in a bit of a hurry. Plus I was only getting one, so had less bargaining power.

Still a bargain at that price! I'll pick it up tomorrow.

          @placard:
You can still show the sales guy this receipt and get $50 refund.thats what I did, I initially paid 820$for each unit and then when I saw the $750 receipt, just before pickup I got 140$ refund for 2 units.Give it a try.

        • @Melbourne01:
Yes few quotes already and the one we down selected is for $525-$550 range.

  • Looks like a good deal for my investment house. The HN eftpos card is an icing on the cake. To the people who already bought it, does the invoice say $868 ?

  • -1

It's available elsewhere also, not exclusive to HN.

    https://www.appliancecentral.com.au/air-conditioners/split-s…

    • Appliance Central: $820 - $150 = $670
      Harvey Norman: $868 - $150 - $150 = $568

  • Anyone have recommendations for installers in Melbourne (northern suburbs)?

    • So far the best quotes we able to get is in the range of $525-$550!

      • That gives me an idea of how much I can try and push the price down, thanks heaps!

      • The cheapest I have atm is $700 in Outer NE.
Can you give me a couple of names pls.

  • Can anyone comment on these compared to kelvinators? I recall kelvinators java airconditioners at around the $500 mark too

  • How much roughly to install an aircon? Lucky enough the living room has direct access to balcony…

I thought you could only buy air conditioners on days over 35 degrees. Thinking ahead is surely unaustralian.

  • Anyone help out with sizing? I've got a bedroom with dimensions of 3.6m x 3.5m. It has an ensuite but that is small. Summer sun does not hit the bedroom window.

Would 2.5kw be sufficient? I also plan on putting it on the wall of the bedroom opposite the door so it can blow a bit of hot/cool air out of the bedroom and straight up the hallway. I don't expect it to cool other bedrooms, but if it takes the edge of a bit, that's enough.

Here's a floorplan I found of a house for sale with the identical layout. They actually put an A/C exactly where I want to.

    Thanks in advance!

2.5kW should be perfect however you need to consider the structure of the room. If your insulation is poor or the room faces west, a 3-3.5kW unit may be appropriate. If the room doesn’t face west and/or you have half decent insulation 2.5kW will be fine.

  • Anyone able to recommend an installer in Hobart?

    • Did you find someone in Hobart ? I'm after someone as well. Northern suburbs

  • +1

placard: i'd say that'd be more that enough!

I dunno how guys install these for under $800, I install them!

Let's say it's a back to back install still gotta put the odu on something, slab, polyslab, wall mount (dont wall mount on timber, noisy!), even $500 really is not enough… We're talking a new power feed from the switchboard (cable, RCBO) for who knows how far and what route, conduit, electrical testing required to meet the AS, isolation switch, pressure testing (nitrogen @ 300psi), vac pumping it down under 500 micron, issue a CEC, plus the flaring, ducting, power to the IDU, liability… I'd not do a b2b cash for that price.. I've had power feeds to install to such installs cost more than $500 (at a friendly rate)!

Nb. get your quote in writing, checkout the abn/acn, get a cec! If it fails under warranty period and it's not installed by someone licenced, to manufacturer specs (ie. torque the nuts to manufacturer spec) then good luck getting warranty claim!

    • If I've got a mate that's an a-grade sparky that works for beer, and I provide the area to mount the unit (dynabolting a couple of suitable brackets to a wall), what would you expect the cost to come out to, roughly?

Trying to determine if a second unit for the bedroom is worthwhile!

    • +1

Plenty of reputable installers are doing it for $550 - $650 in Brisbane. I had a 7.1kW installed in my lounge, with a non back to back install that required conduit to be run down the wall behind the air con and out to the outside unit. Total cost: $650. Got the certificate and all.

Seems like you might need to look at your business model to reduce your costs.

    • lol, i got fully qualified one install 2 of these, including removing the old wall unit out for a grand, each unit has its own dedicated circuit and nice switch, he even rearrange my switchboard and removed out those old disconnected CB and labelled them nicely. Sound like your business is on ozripping then.

      • $800 for a b2b - what are your actual equipment costs? Pipe, case, slab, external pipe cover? $100? $150 tops? How much can you get a sparkie to power it up? A good sparkie could do 3-4 b2b jobs in a day, maybe $200 ea? The rest is just your time. Lets say you want to get $100 p/h, the job takes 2-3 hours? So $500-$650 seems like a good rate for a strict back to back. If you can do 3 a day, earning $200 each, $600 a day doesnt sound too bad to me……

  • I've read a few bad reviews of the 2.5kW being noisy in the outdoor unit and vibrating through walls - has anyone else found this?

    • Hit and miss. I have 3 Fujitsu only 1 has this vibrating noise but not that loud.

      • 3 of this model?

Is the vibrating in the wall from the outdoor unit and is it only when you initially turn it on and it is working hard or after it has ramped down?

        • Only when It works hard. Not sure this model as I bought mine 3 years ago.

        • @wtfnodeal:

I've heard the further apart the indoor and outdoor units are the less noisy they are. Is your noisy one got a long or short distance between indoor/outdoor units compared with the non-noisy ones?

        • +1

@placard: All 3 are back to back very short distance.

For anyone interested, I asked about installation costs through HN and was provided this sheet.

I went to HN and the store manager gave me the slimline one for $900 due to i cant wait for $868 one. And he deducted the money instead eftpos cards as i asked.

    • Doesn't the slimline one have worse efficiency scores?

      • I am not sure about it , specs say 5 stars but i dont really care, it looks better, and the main thing was i didnt have to pay for full price and still have AC for this summer coming.

    • That's nice

  • gotta find your own air conditioning installation company. I got a split system from Frost Air conditioning, turn key type solution, fully installed prices.

      • 2.5kw for each bedroom, and 5.0 for the lounge :)

  • Does anybody know if Fujitsu/Mitsubishi do this sort of thing every year? I noticed that most air-conditioner companies had a cash back offer running throughout the winter.

  • Any decent priced installers you guys recommended in Victoria?

    • Goodguys Home install?

    • Where about in Vic are you?
I’m getting a 5kW unit installed circa $600-$700 in NE Melb but it is a replacement not new install.

  • Anyone had there's installed yet and is it quiet?

    • +1

I got 4 installed this week. Mine are very quiet and can’t even tell it’s running. The outside units are quiet as well, you can obviously tell they are on when standing next to them but you wouldn’t hear it running from a distance. Very happy with the purchase

      • Are they back to back - what distance between indoor and outdoor units in piping? I'm about to get mine installed, Fujitsu say 3m min piping, which most back to back won't achieve, but most of the people I got to come and quote told me I don't need to worry about that requirement and that it will be fine.

Thanks! Looking forward to having it installed.

        • I’m in a two story house. So 2 units are back to back but outside unit is on the ground, So 4-5m of piping.

Another is not back to back so is even further away than that.

However the last unit in the bedroom is back to back as it’s mounted on the top of the bottom half of the house to the wall. I’d say about 2 meters of piping on that one. My bed is also against the same wall and I can’t hear the outside unit (only had it running at daytime so far).

      • I got my 2 installed, mine was very noisy when it started, only occur on heating. sound like water gurgle noise with cracking sound on the pipe, but cooling is quite.

    • +1

Got the 5kw installed this week as a replacement of an old one, it's in the living room so not often that it's absolutely quiet in there with the tv going.

With the tv going I can't hear the a/c going at all unless the fan is set to reasonably high. The outdoor unit is on the ground underneath a window and I can't hear that humming even when there's no sound in the house.

Very happy with my purchase too, I'll probably look at getting the smaller one to replace the bedroom unit next time there's a sale.

  • Bloody hell the cash back from Fujitsu is annoying - they just replied saying "no installation address on invoice" WTF?

Shouldn't you get the cash back regardless where it is installed? I guess I'll have to ask Harvey Norman to reprint?

    • Mine said no model number provided, so I uploaded the same receipt but this time I circled the model number. Honestly frustrating

Just for an FYI for anyone interested, I submitted my cashback claim on August 31, received approval September 10.
