3.5" digital TV with recording (PVR) to SD feature, $99.95 plus postage

20

This is a LASER brand portable TV, with PVR function. Expect the PVR to be a bit buggy, and I don't know this but expect it to be Standard Definition and not High Definition. By this I mean I expect this to not receive HD channels which is what is stopping me from buying it.

Battery run time is approx 3 to 4 hours between charges.

Sorry, I'll repeat the opening sentence of this post with a nod to Austin Powers (and Dr Evil).

This is a "LASER" brand portable TV, with PVR function.

…OK, so I'm STILL tempted to buy this little TV, but won't, because it is SD not HD most likely.

Postage to Melbourne was $14.95, your mileage may vary.

Maybe I should wait til Coles have these in a couple of years and clearing them out at $50 !!

yeah i don't think it's HD, will have to wait for the next version for HD!
ps if you're keen for something like this, for around the same price you can find a mobile phone with digital tv, it won't have a 3.5" screen, more like 2.8"-3.2", but paying for a digital tv tuner and getting a complete unlocked touchscreen phone sounds like a better deal to me

where can you get a phone for around this price that has TV tuner? what brand of phone even has a TV tuner in it?

also, will not have PVR, and I would question the quality of a tuner in a mobile phone. Kind of like a camera in a mobile phone, will never compare to a standalone digital camera. although, this is a LAZER brand..so also questionable quality

        • You have searched digital cell phone, but none of the search results apply to that, because there is no phone that you can get cheap enough to access digital tv. Those phones can access analogue tv, which will be useless a few years.

Digital tv, and especially hdtv, requires levels of processing power that you won't find in phones, unless it is a prototype w/ state of the art components.

  • Why would you need HD on a 3.5 inch screen ?

some channels are only HD e.g. GemHD. This I read is only SD. I don' think we need wait more than a year b 4 all chans SD when spectrum is open when analogu totally closed.

I don't think Lazer in general questionable quality.

for some reason I like the idea of having a portable TV that I can use (?) on the run, watch/listen to in the car on the road, and not have to use 1GB per minute downloading via watching on my mobile phone. I'm sure it can be done, I just like the idea of "free TV" not reliant on downloading bandwidth.

  • ABC, Channel 7, 9 and 10, Prime, SBS, Southern Cross and WIN, as well as digital specific channels including ACC, GO!, EXPO, One, NITV, Teachers TV, and Digital Forty Four.

  • @she_spools_180, look on ebay overseas or those china wholesale sites like alibaba
re phone, i'm not sure about the pvr but the picture quality is quite good, not as good as a full size tv of course but then again just about all the features are a kind of compromise when it comes to a mobile phone, heck even the phone function itself compared to a landphone is a compromise between portability and battery power!

  • I actually have the previous version of this. I think the only difference is you can't save to SD card. It picks up all channels in the area. The internal screen switches off when connected to a tv as well.
Since then I've bought a digital tv so don't use it any more. Let me know if you want it for maybe half the price I'll put it up on ebay for you. It still has warranty on it and I have everything that came in the box.

  • What is the reception on a portable TV like with a telescopic antenna? My guess would be not to good for most areas, unless your in a strong signal area with line of sight to the TV transmitter.

A USB Elgato EyeTV plugged into your home PC/Mac streaming to an iPhone over 3G/WiFi via home broadband connection with iceTV for remote scheduling makes a more cost effective portable PVR, and you get HD channels plus being able to remotely watch recordings. I also believe its an uninterrupted experience if you go into a no signal area while watching TV on portable device, due to the live pause rewind / buffer.

Bought an Elgato TV tuner for under $100, and have found it a high quality device, well thought out and put together. Can also be used as a Portable TV via use with Laptop, and is a much better bang for buck than the Laser deal.

    • stream all you like even pay tv with slingbox or hava monsoon to your android or iphone but in poor 3G areas or if you have your pc/s downloading at home you are stuffed.

I now have the lazer and its a reasonable price at $99. Better signal than on a chinese phone with digital tv.

Can't figure how to lock on 16x9?

  • DSE have the 7" model today for $79. But it uses external battery back and catalog details are incorrect re. station lineup. This 7" unit does have AV in tho and claims to have FM radio.
