I think it’s not smart. As recommended on other posts, smart tv at the this price would be so laggy. Better yet get an android box.
It should be fine purely as a HDMI1 screen for a Fetch box (or similar) to hang off.
I wouldn't buy a 50" 4K TV - way too small. 65-85" (or more) is the sweet spot for 4K - anything smaller and you're not really going to notice the extra resolution.
But its all relative to ones lounge size. 65-85, in my lounge, would be totally unworkable.
How big is your lounge?
My lounge is quite small as well and i am in dilemma too of getting bigger size tv but i really like 65" TV.
Not a smart TV.
How good is this particular model in terms of display and longevity?
It’s a newer model so not many reviews
Just be aware that you take on some risk buying a Kogan TV. I have a similar model, 49 inches. Not smart but I don't want a smart tv - that's what the xiaomi box and ps4 are for.
It looks great but has a few little issues - mainly with switching Sources sometimes the image will be all weird and frozen and I'll have to switch back to another source and come back again. I kind of expected things like this so I don't mind.
I think it's worth taking on some risk for a $399 50 inch TV but it's a matter of opinion.I have a 55" curved 4K TV and i think its great. No issues whats so ever
Ive had no issues at all with mine.
it is NOT smart TV which is a plus in my books. I use mine primarily for a chrome cast which works perfectly.Dont expect OLED 4K screen quality, but for 400 bux its damn good. I would buy another…. puts credit card in high place
Good to hear a positive review of this model. I've heard the speakers are crap, but that's not a big deal since I assume all OzBargainers use a sound bar?
Also +1 for non-smart. Much prefer a snappy UI and then add smart features later with a MiBox or Chromecast
Am i the only one who prefers non-smart TVs?
So much easier just hooking up a HTPC or a cheap laptop even.
that shows how smart ur :)
You are right, smart TV's from cheap brands just make the TV worse then a dumb TV.
Smart TVs aren't exactly unable do to that though.
Smart TVs are still junk though.Though I had a Sony TV with built in Android TV which was amazing. Probably only loved it because it was completely lag free with apps and menus.
Smart TV's are slow to turn on, sometimes have forced features/effects you can't turn off and also have a lot more latency due to all the smart TV features.
I've noticed my Sony slowing down a bit. Might be time to do a factory reset. But you're right. AndroidTV is the best TV interface I've used. Bonus points for letting me pair up a Bluetooth controller and using that for navigation.
Am i the only one who prefers non-smart TVs?
Nope, as you can see in other comments before yours : )
I read the first comment asking if it's a smart tv :D
This is $428 on eBay with free postage right now. May be cheaper if you have been targeted for the 10% off deal, or have gift cards + 5% off with PENNY5
Not HDR.
And no 3d!
So for a work monitor with no HDR and no 3d…this is a steal with free shipping :]
I can't imagine this would make a good monitor, probably a lot of input lag.
@samfisher5986: be good for spreadsheets 👌
Depends, some TV's have stupid filters that can't be disabled that makes small text and similar things look terrible.
Can anyone get the online user manual to display images in their browser?
https://kogan.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001584148They seem to have the assets folder locked, yet I was fobbed off by Kogan support. Not a good sign when this is the manual you're expected to "download" (they're usually PDF but I don't mind HTML).
For anyone needing the manual:
https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/88188/61722/kaled50ju8…I'm told they'll be fixing the HTML manual soon.
Hoping for 60" for ~$500 soon. Man cave needs an upgrade
Very tempted. Can sell my 10 year old 50 inch Panasonic Plasma for about $200, then use about $20 Kogan discount voucher to get this TV for a net expense of about $170.
Plus $10 from referral
I would never sell my 55" Panasonic Plasma for one of these cheap TVs
I do think its amazing you can get a 50" TV for $400..
How does this kogan TV compare to an Aldi 4k TV?
How does an apple from Aldi compare to an apple from Coles ?
An apple is an apple so exactly the same?
Well unless you go buy an apple from both stores, how would you know? ;)
How good is the TV? Is it a smart tv? 400$ for a 50inch 4K TV seems to very cheap.
