Spoke too soon. Apparently a low end logitech keyboard and mouse combo is still enough to crash their servers.
Front page I can get to load ok most times, It's the secure server on checkout that sucks.

I cannot understand why they don't bulk buy and offer these great deals separately (1 a day) then it'd be win, win and won't piss off tones of people in the process.
Who should bulk buy?
COTD offers these deal in a clever way - they are loss-leaders. They aren't interested in "winning", it's only to draw traffic into the site.
They lock the place down so people get the impression that thousands of items are being sold… they might only have 10 of an item but the server is slowed down so much that you can't buy them.
The Catchathons are just marketing… they make money from teh small fish and other crap they sell.
I think they quote minimum stocks of 50, so the odds should be 5x as good as you said, but still terrible.
The real loser here is Scoopon. I'm far too lazy to check Scoopon's site individually, I just check it on the side of Catch.
COTD owns Scoopon. The server costs to run a separate Scoopon site is almost nothing. They win either way.
Yes, but assuming most people are as lazy as me (not a big stretch), then checking Scoopon involves looking at the side of the COTD site. So during these sales, the COTD site doesn't load, therefore Scoopon is seen by less people.
You have to agree "not to whinge" just to enter.
Personally I'd rather retain my prerogative to whinge than see what bargains I can't "win".

I understand that the quantities available per item are very limited and there is a slim chance of getting the deal. I know that I am competing for access to this deal with hundreds of thousands of other shoppers. I realise that with such a large amount of interested visitors the website is bound to crash and slow down. Knowing all the above, I still choose to participate and will not whinge afterwards. Come on, let me in already!
