Apply American Express Platinum Edge Credit Card receive 6 gold class ticket & return flight

seems like a good deal you get tickets worth around $120 plus flight which is at least $150.
worth the $149 annual fee you'd pay.
plus get 3 points per dollar when using at supermarkets.
That's the good points i can see.
Although i'm in Vic i dont think there is a gold class cinema here, there is only a crappy greater union!

Jam Factory, Crown, Geelong, Doncaster, Knox, Southland and I believe somewhere out W/NW have Gold Class.

  • yeh this is a good deal for people in Perth because the flights get you to all the major cities

if you get this card through amex rather than greater union they give you 20,000 points I think instead of the movie tickets…..I think there is also a ticketek version where they give you $200 towards concert tickets as your bonus..

Interest rate seems high though so probably not the best for people who are bad with cards

  • •You have an annual Income of $50,000 p.a. or more

    • Well, banks have to make sure you have enough to pay them back won't they?

      • Umm…it should be expenses vs income. Obviously a single person has lower expenses than a couple. Unfortunately being on a disability support pension…

If I ever got the card, I'd want a limit of $1000. But I don't think AE could make money off that. Probably the reason for the high income limit.

        • High income limit is because the credit limit is usually a minimum of $10k. There are cards that suit all sorts of incomes/expenditures, this caters towards a higher end.

        • cyssero, kind of figured that. I know there are cards that suit all sorts of incomes/expenditures and that it caters towards a 'higher' end…but what drew me to this deal was the free flights per year.

Being "Platinum" it's implied that it will have a high credit limit.

        • I have this card and due to applying for a home loan they let me reduce the limit to 2k. I was given the choice to go even lower. I find this much better than my visa platinum which didn't let me reduce it below 8k

    • Miss it by less than $1,000pa. Gah.

This would cost them hardly anything (Because they can basically print the movie tickets for free) in comparison to the money they are going to get off you in annual fee + interest. Not to mention that a lot of places charge a surcharge for American Express so those points you are gathering aren't worth very much.

    • +7

Surcharges for using Amex are getting less and less.. and if you are paying credit card interest then clearly you are on the wrong website..

If I am such a tightarse that I go on ozbargain religously to find cheap stuff then no way in hell am I paying interest.

      • +5

lol that's right.. if you are paying CC interest u shouldn't have a CC.

      • -2

but you will happily pay a $149 annual fee?

        • +4

only because the flights + gold passes far out weigh the value of the annual fee. Not only that because amex rewards loyalty/ doesnt want you to close your card. Each year I call up and advise them I dont want to pay annual fee and they waive it.

        • @Jdogman
          True Ozbargain Pride =]

      • hey dogman, how can you do it? just ring them up and tell them "i dont want to pay the annual fee", then they really will waive it without any problem?

i am considering a platinum card, considering its reward points are far better than my current HSBC visa.

  • this is useful for someone planning a holiday… apply for this, pay for holiday tickets… come back with gold class tickets and more air tickets.

other than that, i dont see any other draw for it. :)

  • the previous offer was 20,000 points which is worth $140 in terms of frequent flyer points value. I think I prefer the 20,000 points

Not bad , but after being an AMEX member sice 1988 I still think this is the best value offer Ive ever seen to the gen public no annual fee, no membership reward fee

  • Provided that you don't mind waiting for at least 4 months to get your movie tickets.
I applied for an amex Gold card that came with free $200 Westfield giftcards back in October 2010,still waiting for my $200 Giftcards.

    • I would say it would be any day now. I applied for my card late October 2010 and just got my 20,000 bonus points this week.

  • I signed up for this card a few months back when I posted this same offer. A month later, I got an invite from a professional association to purchase the same card for only a $99 yearly fee, a saving of $50 per year. Amex were great, they simply transferred me over to the association branded card.

So if you are a member of an association or society see if you can get the card through them. Same card, same benefits, but $50 cheaper.
