  • Pretty good deal for buying in Aus, but we generally get ripped on this sort of stuff. Much cheaper to by in the US and use a forwarder.

    • Radar, did you mean it is still cheaper in the US + forwarder after this 30% off?

      • Sorry should have been clearer.
It all depends on what you order and how much. ie. if you order a basic shirt or pants then it will likely be cheaper here. But if you order a bunch of them or stuff like a goretex jackets then it's cheaper to get from the US.
When getting things from the US it's worth while getting more to offset the extra cost of shipping and the forwarder.

This is a pretty good deal, and if you just want a few things then it's probably not worth the bother getting it overseas.

I order a decent amount of stuff and also have friends ordering stuff from the US through me which also helps to offset the shipping+forwarder costs :)

    • Yes, this is probably cheaper, but TNF may void the lifetime warranty when they discover you got them within the States and not from your local authorized distributor. I am unsure though, you can speak to a guy called Tom at the North Face Pitt st store, he knows heaps about International ordering.

      • yes, there are a few things to consider with local vs overseas orders. local support, warranty, being able to try it on.

Warranties will be dealt with differently from brand to brand. I've had a good experience with Cascade Designs (Manufacturer of MSR, Therm-a-Rest, Platypus and SealLine) who didn't seem to care where I bought the item from.

A good deal for Mainpeak, but not a bargain (IMHO) if you're happy to buy from overseas and wait a day or two longer for delivery.

Example one: The North Face "Base Camp Duffle (Large)"

    http://www.mainpeak.com.au/outdoor/packs-and-luggage/duffles…
    = $145.42 delivered (24-48hrs)incl all discounts
    vs
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/the-north-face-base-camp-large-duffe…
= $116.78 delivered (48-72hrs) excl any discounts for first order etc

Example two: The North Face "RECON Daypack"

    http://www.mainpeak.com.au/outdoor/packs-and-luggage/124417.…
    = $115.20 delivered (24-48hrs)incl all discounts
    vs
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/the-north-face-recon-daypack/
= $100.91 delivered (48-72hrs) excl any discounts for first order etc

    • North Face has a restriction on international orders unfortunately…I found the recon bag on eastbay(US)_…but they can't deliver to anywhere outside of the US. if they do, you void the lifetime warranty on the bags. This is to make sure the North Face store in Australia( think there is one on Pitt St Sydney) survive.

      • wiggle.co.uk does not seem to worry about such restrictions.

      • sierra trading post also seems to send tnf internationally

it is very easy to compare the prices. we here in au are paying double what americans pay for the exactly same thing (TNF).

so it is no brainer to me to buy online from USA, even though it costs extra for the shipping (usually free for continental americans)

i spent many days to choose what brand and design i want (a rain shell) on Backcountry.com, only to find at the end that the brands i want cant be shipped to AU (which includes the popular brand like TNF and those really good ones like Mountain Hardware, Marmot, and the legend (also the most expensive)Arc'teryx). fortunately, i found some other websites do not have these restriction.

i ordered two technical raincoats of Mountain Hardware (mine is made of Gore Tex and my friend's their own equivalent material) on Oregon Mountain Community last week and tracking the order on USPS, i will probably receive them TODAY. cant wait!

in nutshell, unless you are the kind of people who likes to worry about everything, BUY ONLINE, BUY OVERSEAS!

btw, the postage cost me US$34.xx.

  • I found the reply in my email…have a look:

    Hi Michael,

The North Face, along with most international brands, has a license
agreement in place that prevents stockists from shipping
internationally. This is designed to prevent international competitors
from undercutting local stockists and to ensure the future of the brand
in each country. This agreement applies to all stockists in all
countries, and as such, if a customer was to find a product that was
cheaper in the Australian market than their home market, we would not be
able to ship a product to them, just as a USA stockist will not be able
to ship a Recon to you in Australia

There is no way that we or any other The North Face supplier can or will
circumvent this policy. Any company that would do so is in breach of
their license to distribute The North Face products, and as such may not
be a legitimate or authorised stockist, meaning that your warranty and
    any rights therein are void.

If you are interested in purchasing a Recon daypack I would suggest
acting quickly as our sale offer concludes tomorrow, Sunday 26th of
September, at which point the price will be $169.95.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any further queries.
