Borders Selling on eBay - 239,731 Items Currently Listed

I was browsing for a particular cd on eBay. I found a seller offering it for a good price & was excited until I noticed who sell seller is: Borders Australia.

I don't feel safe buying anything from Borders on eBay considering their current situation! I'm a bit surprised they have over 200,000 items listed there.

  • They've been on ebay.au since Oct 2010 according the seller info. So I guess they knew the bang was coming. If you saw the kitsch they were trying to flog off at the recent clearances, you wouldn't be surprised at 200,000. I guess the receivers are in on this too.

  • wow
    that's heaps of listings

  • They only sold 4 items yesterday so it could take a while to clear it all…

They seem to be adding more listings too. Now it's up to 239,961. Might be worth watching to see if this number just keeps growing.

    • wow what a massive increase

  • 240,157 items … 240,181 … they must be working around the clock :)

… hope its not the administrators staff … would cost a fortune!!!

    • they must be working around the clock :)

      they're surely working hard!
241,112 results found now which is 20 more than 3 min ago

  • one refresh and it adds 10 more items

  • Still more than book depository (at least on some items)

  • wow…

  • Sorted all their listings by location & only about 3,000 are marked as located in Australia.

The rest of the goods seem to be located in the USA or UK. And still free postage… I thought this is Borders Australia??

Wow, and their eBay prices are….just as expensive as they were instore! No wonder they went out of business.

  • 241,091 results found and still counting…

  • they want to take all the $$$ and run :)

  • 245,658 now

  • Amazingly enough, they are cheaper than the cheapest on Booko, well for one book at least, the first book on the list when I clicked through:

    Booko's cheapest $22.99
    Borders eBay: $17.50

    24 copies sold of that.

Not as good as Book Depository and considering the number of listings, they're giving eBay a MASSIVE amount just from their % cut. Why not just open their own online store and discount heavily to cut out the middle man?

    • They do have their own online store though… I have no idea what these guys are trying to do….. Recover as much money as possible or go broker than broke.

      • they are probably trying to get their name out there
as i doubt they hardly get any pageviews when compared to their listing on ebay

        • lol this is funny as!!!

    • unfortunately when companies go broke, they have already lost much of their expertise, and they do things they would never normally do, and given the administrators are amateurs in whatever market the company is in, money leaks out everywhere … especially to the administrators and their friends … but just everywhere

      • imho only of course.
  • wow they must be doing good
    242,185 now

    • and 258,366 now … not looking good for them … but I think there will be some good bargains for customers soon (unless the administrators read this, as long as they cover their fees they'll give them away at knock down prices, when they cant sell many of the stores/and stock, as a going concern - wherever the books are located).

      • the listings were all buy it now prices….its just like a 2nd e-store really..

  • They are doing a gst free weekend for today and tomorrow too

    • +1

It's still heaps expensive compared to booko prices.

      • '+' with that

        • agree, the only time I bought anything there was when they did the $20 on the vip card. I just noticed they were doing the gst free weekend

  • hope they live ….

    • Got a feeling they aren't going to. Now I just hope Angus & Roberston lives on.

  • Currently sales stand at: 279,002

    • items for sale :)

    282,226 items for sale tonight.

I bought 6 books from a Borders store last weekend when they had 40% off purchases of 4 or more. I was feeling kind of sorry for them… Then I checked on Amazon UK & found I could still have paid less by buying the same from them. No wonder Borders went broke when even at 40% off their prices are more expensive than Amazon!

  • Look like they keep pumping the items to feed ebay!

  • Just noticed on their website about 'price guarantee -"find it cheaper and we will beat it by 10%"- not sure if they had this before, but probably not? otherwise they wouldnt be in this current situation.

    • seems like it was already there

      • oh haha oops, my bad. Ive checked the borders website a few times, but I cant remember seeing the big price guarantee banner there. :|
